Video CAF

is not perfect for Pany yet. On faster speed panning even the latest Pany has certain issue. Wish pany can overcome it once for all by putting on OSPDAF likevSony and Canon in future models.

For the time being, when use CAF in video, pan slowly. Or use AFS or MF.

That's another reason why you may have difficulty achieving focus lock.

The camera is actually very good indeed at focussing in low light. You do need to learn how best to use it though, just as with any sophisticated tool.

I have done very little night photography with this camera so it looks like I'll need to experiment more with the settings.

There are times when the camera will go out of focus for a moment even when recording video in the daytime. However I'll check the setting on this camera.

You can try shooting 1080 instead of 4k. Focusing should be faster. Also, when in Custom movie mode (selected from PASM-dial), you can select "continuous AF" to "OFF" from the first menu.

AF options can be overwhelming in Panasonic Lumix cameras. Some options affect stills, some affect video, some affect both, and the camera may operate differently if it is in Custom movie mode or in some other mode (selected from the PASM dial).

Thanks for the suggestions pannumon.

I always shoot using 1080.
Yes I noticed a large collection of setting in the cameras menu, some even do the same thing. Still it's good to be able to set up the camera exactly the way you want it to perform.

Turn off AFF in the menu and use single autofocus, which is what you have been repeatedly advised to do.

It's also generally a good idea to set "Quick AF" to "OFF". Unlike what someone might think, the opposite of "Quick AF" is not "Slow AF", but "user-triggered AF". Setting Quick AF to OFF disables constant focusing when shutter button / back focus button are not pressed.

In earlier models this setting was called "Pre-focus", which in my option is much much better name.

Most of my focusing problem seem to be when I are video recording with this camera, which can ruin a good video shot.

But I hope to check this setting and the settings that others have suggested.
