Canon t6 and UHS cards

Thank you for your help in advance

I was reading the manual for canon t6 and it was saying it will not have benefit with UHS cards would it be useful if i got a sandisk extreme or extreme pro with this camera or should i just buy a simple class 10 card.

Big welcome to the forum!

I highly recommend the SanDisk Extreme Pro cards (UHS-I interface). I've never experienced a problem with one in any camera through several hundred thousand pics (buy from a reputable source though so you don't get a clone). Slower cards can slow down your read/write times, and take longer to clear the buffer. Some (slow) class 10 cards can even be problematic for video.

None of my Canon cameras benefit from the UHS-II interface ( however it doesn't slow them down either). Your choice if you have the extra bucks (and want to try to "future-proof" a bit). Personally I'd just recommend getting a faster speed (UHS-II) card in the future when you need it tho.

These days I only buy UHS cards. I'll probably use them in the future in something that can take advantage of them.

Even today, there is an advantage to the read speed of the UHS cards when I copy pictures from the card to my PC.

I haven't bought many UHS-3 cards (one I think), and it's in my main DSLR.

For Canadian Costco members, a couple of weeks ago they were selling (in store only) the Sandisk Ultra microSD UHS-I card 64GB for $25. Seemed like an excellent deal so I picked one up as a spare.

This is a good question. It's more important to get a Sandisk card for its reliability, rather than its speed. You don't need to get the latest and greatest SD card but if you stick to the mid-range cards, you'll be fine. The mid-range cards will have good read speeds so you still benefit when copying to computer.

The Ultra and the Extreme Pro are both rated to the same operating temperatures (-13F - 185F).  Don't know if SanDisk has ever published altitude data.

The biggest factor that you might consider though is the large difference in write  speeds.  The Ultra is rated at 10 MB/s max, and the Extreme Pro at 90 MB/s max.

10 MB/s is over 4 times slower than the camera can write to the card (~45 MB/s).  This however might not impact you if you don't take a lot of pictures in a row (or shoot bursts).

But IMHO I'd still get the Extreme Pro  for the extra $15.

Where did you find the write speed of the T6? Google did not find it for me. I saw write speeds for the T6i and T6s.

The Canon specs for the T6 say "Not compliant to UHS-I (Ultra High Speed) standards." So I would GUESS write speed under 10MB/s.

You’re right. I was looking at the T6i/T6s specs.  The Ultra would do fine.
