ive owned the lense now for just over 4 months and I can say is truly and amazingly sharp. Very fast and the micro contrast is just beautiful.

A fine piece of glass is a joy to use, especially during post processing when you can spend quite a bit of time working on an image. Enjoy!

I believe Sony FE 55/1.8 ZA outresolves it.

But with those specs it's amost irrilevant..

About the wine: do you add it to the food whilst you are cooking the food? Or do you add it to the food that you have just swallowed?

The two make sense, don't they?

Both are possible, but produce a different result, which affects the taste.

Agreed.

Although it's nice to start cooking and grab a refreshing Prosecco, just to prepare for dinner, you know.

I got mine last night delivered. Can't wait to test it.

Could you post some photos made with this lens as examples?

I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food.
I have both and the 55/1.8 with an a7rii. I've never done any scientific comparison. Both are very sharp but I would pick the 75 as having an edge. Could be more perceptual thing from the sorts of things I photograph at that focal length.

According to lab tests Sony's 55/1.8 ZA resolves above 3500 lines which is astonishing itself.

Oly 75/1.8 is at 3150 which is extremely high.

Specs apart both lenses are insanely sharp.
Presumably, these are Optical limits tests. You should be aware that they do their tests on sharpened JPEGs, which means that the usual 50% contrast criterion for MTF rather goes out the window, and why they show something like double the resolution of other sites (that don't do the tests with sharpened JPEGs). Still, they should be self-consistent, so:

The lens in question

I think that's enough to suggest that the OP's statement 'The sharpest lense regardless of format' is the usual kind of tiresome provocative hyperbole from which this forum suffers (apart from the fact that he can't spell 'lens').

Think it gets bettered by the pl 200mm and olympus pro 45mm f1.2

Bob, Thanks for the comprehensive reply, which I can't fail to fully adhere to.

Too often we give in to our emotions and jump to the wrong conclusion.

That said, Oly 75/1.8 is a sharp lens for good.

Peace

Felice

Didn't think Oly 45/1.2 could get to these levels of sharpness.

Impressive.

I would have given this lens the nod until I purchased the 300 F4 Oly prime. That lens is wicked sharp.

It's clearly better than any lens I ever used except OM f/1.4 50 and OM f/2.8 135 but they have to be stopped down. Very sharp but not as bright the way I use them.
