"Lens attachment failed"

My Panasonic 20mm f1.7 II lens is out of function on both of my two Panasonic camera bodies. When I want to use the lens on both bodies I am getting this message: "Lens attacment failed. Please make sure the lens is attached correctly".

I have cleaned all connections thoroughly, and also scraped them with a small knife. But it did not solve the problem. The strange thing is that the failure message disappears if I push one of the for function buttons which is placed in a ring around the menu/set button. When I do this it looks as if the lens is working properly again. The same thing happens if I push the lens release button. But as soon as remove my finger from one of those five buttons the failure message arrives again.

I have the feeling that the problem is not caused by a mechanical failure or a a bad electric connection, but rather some kind of firmware problem.

If anybody knows how to get my 20mm lens to work again, I would be very pleased.

Re: "Lens attachment failed"

Does your 20 f/1.7 still under warranty? If so, might ask the service center to check it out for you.

Otherwise, tricky business. Work around it as you have and use it to the last minutes you can. For an out of warranty service it might be expansive.

A Guess

You could try "shutter release without lens" set to yes.

Thank you. I tried it but it did not help.
