A great update

This lens is a great tool for everybody who needs to get the job done. There is nothing that gets in your way, not even an IS system. It is lighter than the Version I, a bit, and that is a good thing. IQ is excellent, sharpness, color and distortion are all well controlled. The bigger filter-size is a small minus, but reasonable.

Re: A great update

Just in time for the new one in a couple of weeks.  Have to say I prefer the hood style on the old one!  The corner softness will no doubt be improved on v3.

Gear ... what I need to get the job done , after all you don't see mechanics listing their brand of spanner as a qualification .

Re: A great update

Most "reviews" are previews. You rarely see somebody talk about a lens after a year of use. I think this is useful information. Everybody is "reviewing" the 70-200 f/4 II now. Great. My review of the Version I is "used it for 10 years, still works great, never let me down." That does not really help to evaluate a new model, but give perspective to Canons claims about quality and durability.

i have the rev. I and it was my 1st. "L" lens, purchased it for my 5Dc. i loved this lens and probably my most used lens. but i have seen the reviews and there is hardly any difference between the new rev. and old. besides, since i purchased my canon 24-70 f2.8 II, i have hardly touched my 24-105 f4.0. so, for someone who starts new and has the "L" itch, this lens would be a nice starting point!!!
