That looks like the terraces in the valleys leading up to SaPa in the North.

Great country to visit lots to see and photograph, was there in 2007.

Thanks. I've been to Hanoi several times but never went up to see those views. Must do next time!

We booked with a tour company based in Hanoi. It was wife and myself, plus guide with driver and car wherever we went. Different parts of Vietnam we picked up new guides after train or plane journeys. They had a suggested itinerary and we added to it with longer stays in some places and some variations, which they seemed to have picked up on in their later tours. The freedom of that arrangement meant we could stop anywhere we liked for photos. Turned out cheaper than any organised group tours booked in Australia.

As for SaPa it needed an overnight train journey from Hanoi to Lao Cai on the Chinese border, then car to Sapa. Also organised so the Sunday we went back through Lao Cai and on to the the Bac Ha Sunday markets = fabulous.

Lao Cai was fun also, as we went to a small park near the border crossing and watched the day shopping permit travellers coming back across the border bridge with their hopelessly overloaded (two wheel only allowed) vehicles.

Later today when finished with some concreting I'll dig back in the files and add to this with some images, nothing artistic like the OP, just everyday life stuff. Oly E-300 in those days with my wife using a Ricoh pocket camera.

That whole set of photos is outstanding.  The subject(s) that I really like are the ones of rice paddies stair-stepping up/down steep slopes.  Amazing.  And well done.

As promised, some images from my 2007 trip, late January so SaPa was foggy, wet and cold, but nice. It's all about the people.....

Amazing variety of regional costumes.

The Ricoh R3 shots were my wife's, she concentrated on people, I was more for overall street scenes.

Next post some from the many taken at the Bac Ha Sunday markets.

Bac Ha
1

On the way to Bac Ha we stopped at another little local market, lots to see even there but only one shot this time....

Now on to Bac Ha, just a tiny selection of the hundreds taken, could have taken thousands....

The markets were amazing, not many tourists in 2007 so they rarely got into the shots.

Guys testing the tobacco, meanwhile next row held.....

The home brew firewater, luckily no sparks from the smokers got to here.

The parking lot behind the markets, people ride or walk for many hours to get here.

Just a tiny taste of the north of Vietnam, really great to visit, loads of photo opportunities. Book now!

Regards..... Guy

My wife and I were in the Vietnam for three weeks. We went from North to South but the Sapa region. Will plan a trip with our children next week or two.

Ben

Thank you for  appreciation!

BTW, the name of the actual photographer  (i.e. me) is Alexei, but I give big credit for success to our photo-guide Yuri Pustovoy who organized this tour.

Yes, this was a photo-tour organized by a great Russian travel photographer Yuri Pustovoy http://artphoto-tour.com.

There were 6 clients (all from Moscow, only I live in California), our leader, local guide, and a different driver in each part of the country (we use airplanes between them). If you are not fluent in Russian, then I would recommend you to hire the local guide Quong who himself is a good photographer and knows all places. If is accredited professional guide with very good English, expensive, but worth it.

BTW, the name of the actual photographer, i.e. me, is Alexei, which is clearly indicated in my flicker album. But I give big credit for the success of these pictures to Yuri  and I do not mind that everybody in this forum calls me Yuri.
