Handheld, Jpegs XF minimum compression, OOC no PP, AF-S, spot focus and metering.

The excitement is all about new reach with the 1" sensor, so:

I show Optical and In-Camera 'Extra Zooms' (Jpegs Only).

SZ Smart Zoom: In-Camera Sensor Crop, Optical, no upscale, reduced pixel count

CIZ Clear Image Zoom, In-Camera Sensor Crop and in-camera upscale back to 20mp.

...................................................

!st Round, simply turn sideways, shoot bookcase 8 feet away, Moderate amount of daylight from window behind me, bounced up some via tilted horizontal blind.

1. Without a doubt, not happy with m6 higher ISO than m3 for anything close, so existing m3 will handle 24 to 100mm (70mm limit cropped a bit)(as planned). m6 by itself for 24-100 would be disappointing comparatively.

2. so, m6 is all about 20mp 100mm to 200mm, and 10mp SZ Smart Zoom 200-280mm

3. CIZ gets better with each processor, so I took 20mp 400mm CIZ and 10mp 560mm CIZ

4. for me, it comes down to IF the results beyond 100mm to 200 and SZ 280mm can compare/beat my existing Oly Stylus 1 Jacket Pocket size zoom with brighter lens but smaller sensor.

m6

20mp 24mm

20mp 70mm (m3 limit)

20mp 200mm optical

20mp CIZ 400mm

drop down to 10mp, still good for posting and viewing?

10mp 24mm

10mp 70mm (m3 limit)

10mp 200mm optical

at 10mp SZ automatically becomes available 201-280, here SZ 280mm

at 10mp, you get more CIZ, here 10mp CIZ 560mm

Hi Elliot,

Looking forward to your analysis and conclusions.   For me, based on my analysis of focal lengths used over 1000's of images on several trips with an LX7, RX100i and a Panasonic ZS15 and ZS20 (24-480mm), I found that more than 90% of my images were shot at 100mm or below.   Thus, for me, any RX100 before the model VI would suffice quite well, and the added focal length would be absurdly expensive at $1200 for a small percentage of my shots in the 100mm - 200mm range.

Hope you reach a different conclusion than I did based on your shooting interests.

Best,

Den

10mp you get more CIZ, here 10mp CIZ 200

btw, I am not pushing 'Extra Zooms', just showing them, to myself and others

Re: rx100m6 shootout

Olympus Stylus 1, Jacket Pocket Size zoom, smaller 1/1.7" sensor, constant f2.8 lens

12mp (cannot crop much, so I look for alternate detail shots on site, zoom helps that.

28mm

70mm (m3 limit)

200mm (m6 limit)

300mm, Stylus 1 optical limit

2X, Oly's version of Sony's CIZ. 300 x 2 = 600mm

Re: rx100m6 shootout

DPR rx100m6 review conclusion excerpt (my emphasis)

"Squeezing such a large zoom range in such a small body comes at a cost. The RX100 VI's lens lets in between 2/3 and 1/3 as much light as the RX100 V's and that means noisier images, especially in low light but also if you're using fast shutter speeds to capture action.

So, while the RX100 VI is more likely to get the shot you want than its compact peers, it's not going to offer the image quality you'll get from other cameras costing a similar amount of money. You have to really want this combination of capability and compactness to justify its combination of image quality and cost."

.................................

from round 1 shootout, here are the 3 shots comparing full range

rx100m6 200mm, iso 1250

Stylus 1 200mm iso 400

Stylus 1 300mm optical limit iso 640

Now it's time to see what I can learn to get better results from the rx100m6, the manual is 584 pages.

I went thru 3 batteries the first day just exploring the 'crazy huge' menu, and I am familiar with Sony menu's. 'My Menu', whatever that is, has 31 pages of choices.

I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED with every one of you!!!

I know these types of test shots are boring at best, BUT

No one noticed the boat painting is upside down.

No one asked why I have toilet paper on my office bookshelf.

We had the house painted, the painter put the boats back upside down. He is coming over soon, so I left it to show him the joke.

TP: I sell stamps and Reel 2 Reel tapes on eBay. The orange gizmo on top is a kitchen scale. To weigh anything bigger than the size of the scale, that blocks the scale weight indicator, you put the TP on the scale, to raise ___ up, then you can see the answer.

Bill might have seen the TP, but he's on the road!
