Fujifilm X-T2 Camera Settings File Display

Have you ever wanted to verify your X-T2 menu settings without wearing out your camera buttons and your eyes?

Have you ever wondered which menu settings are stored in those .DAT files you have saved?

Wouldn't it be nice to view these .DAT file settings in a nice readable format?

To help answer these questions, I have created a small Java program named Fujifilm X-T2 Camera Settings File Display. The file format is .jar which is platform independent. I have tested this on both Windows (mostly) and Mac (briefly), but it should run on most any platform.

Requirements:

  • X-T2 settings backup .DAT file(s) saved using PC AutoSave or X Acquire

If you are not familiar with how Camera Settings Backup/Restore works, please visit the Fujifilm website for info about X Acquire...
FUJIFILM X Acquire - Features & Users Guide

How it works:

  • Run program
  • Select .DAT file
  • HTML file is saved
  • Open HTML file in browser

Downloads below...

DROPBOX LINK to run file Fujifilm_X-T2_Camera_Settings_File_Display_v1.00.jar

DROPBOX LINK to sample HTML output file

Comments, suggestions, and bug reports are all welcome!

This is extremely useful Macro.

WAY easier than scrolling through menu's and remembering (or writing down) what is in each custom setting, Auto ISO setting, etc.

Thank you for coding & sharing this!

Macro,

Tried it with my X-H1 saved setup hoping the H1 and T2 would be similar enough.  No cigar. Got an error that the file was not the correct size.  Oh well, can blame me for trying ;-(

Thanks for trying and reporting back. If you can upload a sample H1 .DAT file to dropbox, I'll see if the format is similar.

I forgot to say that when I tried ver 1 it gave me the error message about wrong file length. I then tired your second version and it gave me an error message that is was an X-H1 not an X-T2.

Thanks for the files.  Unfortunately, the X-H1 format is very different from the X-T2.  Many of the same fields exist, but they are scattered about in different locations.  The same goes for X-T1 DAT files.  It appears that commonality is not on the list of requirements when designing these files formats for different models.

Good catch on the second version not producing errors on file size.  I had disabled file size checking for testing and forgot to enable it again prior to release.

What would be nice is if Acquire generated a common file like XML

I have downloaded the zip-file, but cannot find any .exe file to run.
I only see a .class file, MF-file and a picture file.

Help please.

For the latest version, please download from the dropbox link in my post above titled "v1.02 Update".

There is no .exe file to run. Do not unzip or unpack anything.

The downloaded file should be named:

Fujifilm_X-T2_Camera_Settings_File_Display_v1.02.jar

This is a Java "jar" file which is platform independent. It should run under Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.

  1. Download and save the file to the location of your choice (works anywhere)
  2. Double-click on the downloaded .jar file to run it
  3. File selection dialog appears
  4. Select an X-T2 ".DAT" file
  5. Click "Open"
  6. "Success" dialog appears showing where the resulting ".html" file was saved
  7. Click OK to close dialog
  8. Open the resulting ".html" file in any browser

Let me know if you have further questions.

Comments, suggestions, and bug reports are always welcome!

Cheers

Thank you very much for you help. I was able to proceed one step forward but got this error message when trying to open my backup file:

"Fujifilm_X-T2.DAT = 3869 bytes. Proper file size = 5660 bytes."

My backupfile was created in december 2017. Does your program not support DAT-files created with older firmware?

Thanks for your feedback.  To my knowledge, the firmware version doesn't matter.  Any newer version that generates a .DAT file should work.

One other user reported 3868 bytes. That file appears to be missing only the 7 CUSTOM SETTINGS at the end of the file.

I would like to...

1.  determine why some .DAT files are smaller
2.  determine why the 7 CUSTOM SETTINGS are sometimes missing
3.  update my code to accept the smaller files, but not display the missing CUSTOM SETTINGS.  (this will read your smaller file)

Have you ever changed any of the 7 CUSTOM SETTINGS defaults?  If not, please change a couple of settings in 2-3 of the 7 CUSTOM SETTINGS.  Save a new .DAT file, then check the file size.  "Normal" size is 5660 bytes.

Thanks!
Macro

Yes I had changed all 7 custom settings in the file that is 5660 bytes.

I did a test now where I changed 2 custom settings with the newest firmware and that generated a DAT file with the size 5660 bytes. I was able to restore this file without error, as expected.

Would you like me to test some more, let me know.

Please double check that your smaller file from 2017 is 3869 bytes... and not 3868?

When you saved the smaller 2017 file, had you changed any Custom Settings from the defaults at that time?

Re: FUJIFILM X-T2 CAMERA SETTINGS FILE DISPLAY

File size from 2017 file as showed in Windows Explorer:
Size: 3,77 kb (3 868 bytes)
Size on disk: 4,00 kb (4 096 bytes)

And yes, when I performed backup in 2017, I had changed several of the custom settings.

That's good.  A size of 3868 bytes agrees with the other users smaller file.  I have already updated the code to accept those files.  I'll post a new version here soon.

Are you using a newer version of Fujifilm X Acquire now than you were in 2017?  Perhaps older versions did not pull the CUSTOM SETTING info from the camera.
