The new Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm F2.8 II jitters like the old one?

Hi there!

I own the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm F2.8 OIS (from 2012), which has a pretty annoying jitter, when shooting video. Even with a firmware update this could not be fixed.

Does the new incarnation of that lens (from 2017) have the same problem?

I am shooting with a GH4...

Thanks so much!

I don't know the answer to your question.  For me the jitter problem with the mark 1 was "fixed" when I went to a G85 and now G9.  IBIS eliminates it.

Hi there, thanks for your reply! What I read on the internets the "Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm F2.8 I" does perform better with the GH5, which has stablilization in the camera. But it's still not perfect.

Still, I'd very much like to know if the new lens fixes the jitter.

Did Panasonic ever state that they made a change to the focusing of that lens that would make "Jitters" go away? I always thought that the camera told the lens what to do, and that the lens just did what it was told.

Said another way, it is the camera introducing the jitters, never the lens, as far as I can tell. I have a GH3 and a G9, I'll test the two with the original 35-100 sometime soon and see if I can report back my findings.

Did you update the camera's *AND* the lens's firmware? I'm pretty sure Panasonic fixed that for the GH4 and GH5 (but not the GX7, much to my disappointment). Also, there is absolutely no video jitter with my G85 and my ver 1 35-100/2.8; where as my GX7 still has video jitter with that same lens.

The jitter is being caused by the OIS unit.

Thanks for the replies!
I have both the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm F2.8 OIS and the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH Power OIS. Both lenses and my GH4 run with the newest firmware. In case of the 12-35mm the firmware update did fix the jitter pretty much completely. In case of the 35-100mm the firmware update reduced the problem a bit, but not much.

So, I think it's a problem in the lens, and I'm wondering if Panasonic fixed it with the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm F2.8 II Power OIS.

Sounds like instead of looking for a good replacement for my lens, I should get the GH5 ; )
