Viewing CR3 in Windows 10

Has anyone found a lightweight viewer alternative to Photo Pro to quickly look through CR3 on Windows 10, or maybe heard a rumour about when it may be supported natively?

Have you? If so you would know it doesn’t work with .cr3 files.

OP could also try MS Word, same result

Even later CR2 files I can't view.  Half my files from my old M and M10 I can see thumbnails, but my CR2 from the M6 don't show.

You might want read the thread before posting. This isnt about what programs can view them, its about how to view the thumbnails in Windows folders.

The solution I found was the fast one codec pack. About $10 and let's you view them in Windows 10 file explorer.

Re: Viewing CR3 in Windows 10

I know it's slightly off topic but I'm still using Photoshop CS5 and its version of ACR doesn't even see CR3 files, only the jpg files on my camera. I have to convert all my CR3 files (and more recent CR2 from my 80D) to DNG before I can do anything with them.

Adobe Bridge can view Raw files for the various cameras. It is free. It's easy to use. If you spend a little extra time and really learn how to use Adobe Bridge, you will love it.

May work with R, but doesn't seem to work with RP. So you'd need to test with your camera.

I have just installed this and it works a treat with cr3 from an M50! It took long enough but I can finally sift through images from multiple cameras and phones quickly in explorer.

Thank you for posting this.

It works with m6ii cr3 too.  Didn't work when I first installed it, even after reboot, but for some reason started working a week later.  Go figure.

Great news!

I found the Microsoft HEIF extension a little fiddly to get working when trying to work on images out of my iPhone.

It looks like they've updated the description to include CR3 support.

THIS VERSION OF RAW IMAGE EXTENSION INCLUDES SUPPORT FOR CR3 FILES IN ADDITION TO OTHER BUG FIXES!
Thanks for your interest in the Raw Image Extension. You can acquire the extension to install on your devices but Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version number 1903) is required to install the extension.

The Raw Image Extension adds native viewing support for images captured in raw file formats produced by many mid- to high-end digital cameras. By installing the package, you will be able to view thumbnails and metadata of supported raw file formats right in Windows File Explorer or view images in the Photos app. The current version of the extension supports a long list of cameras, however some Raw formats like. GPR are not currently supported.

This package is made possible thanks to libraw open source project (http://www.libraw.org). Check out https://www.libraw.org/supported-cameras for a list of supported cameras. Libraw library is licensed under COMMON DEVELOPMENT AND DISTRIBUTION LICENSE Version 1.0 (CDDL-1.0)
