Does any of that matter at all, for the choice between those bodies? I think none of those matter. all of them are APS-C, all of them offer WiFi for remote live view, all of them have penta mirror OVFs, all of them offer a swivel screen. All of them can be put on a tripod in the same manner, all of them can be handheld, all of them have similar live view, all of them have a similar flash system, all of them can use the same lenses, all of them have the same AF lens system, none of them will disfunction with extension tubes and close up attachments are a question for lens choice, not camera choice.....

All of these are very similar and can use the exact same lenses for macro photography. With macro in mind, I can't think of a reason to chose one over the other.

Choose the SL2 if you want the smallest camera body, the others for a more advanced AF system for other things than macro stuff.

From the  responses, came to same conclusion, "apples or apples!" Chose 77D, 1,000 was upper limit and all have about the same "bells and whistles!" Little smaller than others. On a trip to Alaska used a friends Canon and thought, "this is what a camera should feel like." On the other hand also remember the weight. Now eleven years later realize weight is a factor. Thanks to all who responded!

Being lighter, the SL2 might be a little less stable after drinking.

Even though I love my SL1 for the lightness, I think I would pick the 77D for macro. It is a great price right now in the US. I like having the back control dial that the others don't have. I used that a lot on my old 10D. I've been very tempted the past couple of weeks.

They don't call you bright for nothing, eh?

Sometimes the best question the poster can think of is not the question they actually need to ask...

It would be best to check them out in person and see which feels and operates the most comfortably and naturally.  IMHO they would all produce marvelous macros (the edge going to the newest sensors).

Don't forget about lighting either!

In general kinda true, although personally I can't think of any macro or close up image that I actually have made with a tripod.

Re: lens and tripod

Yep, me too.  I've never used a tripod for macro images.  Before I bought into my Canon system, I had an Olympus camera and lens that took good pictures of damselflies.  I would sit near the damselfly and brace the camera and lens on my knees or legs to reduce any shake of the camera/lens.  So without a tripod, I found that bracing with some sort of camera or lens stabilization worked well.

That's Old School. AF and flash is the way to go these days for general work.

Sarcastic but it’s well said and true. At some point the thought of subjects shot and focal length hopefully come into the conversation.
