D500, 300MM PF and 1.4X Chasing Barn Swallows
Combo does very well at acquiring and following these little jet fighters even just above water.. I find if you use group and try and keep just the bottom point of the group on teh bird its pretty dependable, and a heck of a lot easier than single point.. just wish I had a bit better light.. took about 200 shots and really about 2/3rds were in focus, I could never do that with one of my long zooms, im lucky to get 1 out of 10
have a bunch more processed and not processed.. some i managed to get off 7 or 8 before I lost the bird

I tried two times to photograph swallows on flight, and i gave up after 5 minutes. Way to fast.
I didn't realize these were called Barn Swallows. I can easily shoot them sitting still from a distance of 15 feet. They line up on the lifeline of my sailboat. And then poop on the deck below. Guess they think my boat is a latrine. I think their nests are underneath the wooden docks.
