Are you happy with the IQ?
I would not, the photos are all out of focus, I should use a tripod and try again.

I am not sure these are OOF. I can see some chromatic aberration (CA), along with a general softness of the pictures.

This is the equivalent of a 480mm - quite long to use without a tripod and at full overture. As Jozef suggested I would try a tripod AND shoot at f/8 to gain some sharpness and DOF. At max zoom, CA will be significant, no matter what.

You may also want to play with the Picture Style to increase the sharpness of the JPGs.

No I am not happy with IQ. I also would appreciate any suggestions to get better zoom quality with the same setup.

That lens is not the exactly the sharpest at the long end , quality drops of quickly at anything longer the 135mm . I gave away my 75-300 a long time ago .

Thank you for the reply. Will be buying the 100-600 soon. Can I use the canon 100-600mm on the M10?

Thank you for the reply. Will try with tripod in the next few days with the settings suggested. Will post the new photos.

I also have another query. Should I change the camera body to something like a 660D? Will that improve the picture quality with the same lens?

I had that lens with a 40D and for similar results for wildlife photos, so I'd suggest it is the glass letting you down. I switched up to a Sigma 120-400 OS and it was substantially better.

The other suggestions about playing with aperture and using a tripod would also help overusing technique.

Before getting new glass I'd suggest really being certain what you want it for, as some kit is ok handheld, and you may want something faster for moving wildlife.

I am not happy with IQ. I also would appreciate any suggestions to get better zoom quality with the same setup.

The first thing I'd suggest is to get out of Auto Mode.  That way you can select a single AF point and focus on exactly what you want.  Otherwise the focus will end up all over the place (as is evidenced in your samples).

It can also be very difficult to hold the camera steady when there is no viewfinder.  Even though most of your shutter speeds were pretty high, I think that camera shake was likely a factor too (esp without image stabilization).

Also, I'd test your lens at f/8 to see if sharpness improves.  There's always a battle between shutter speed and aperture!  See which one wins.

Lastly, I like the suggestion to check out the 55-250 IS STM.  You'll gain both sharpness and stabilization.  It's often found at a great discount at the Canon Refurb store.

Best of luck!

Thank you for the reply. I agree with you camera shake was a big factor as all my shots are hand held. Going in one hour to try the following :

1) Use a tripod to avoid camera shake

2) Use my iphone as a remote shutter via wifi to reduce camera shake also

3) Use manual mode

4) USe f/8 to see how the image improves

5) Will look for an EF-S 55-250 IS STM

Just a quick update after all of you helped me

The main issue was with focussing and I realised that I have to use touch focus with Single point AF to get good shots. Now I am getting better image quality. The below image is at 300mm zoom.
