GH4 photo numbering

Is the photo numbering system in sequence or does it change automatically or is it something I have to set in the GH4.

Due to Family issues I have not used my GH4 since I bought it new in 2016 but now I find numbers started in the 300s   (was there a previous owner ???)

I had a Nikon D40 and just stored the photos on CDs and now I find the photo numbering system changed once in a while and I want to make sure my GH4 doesn't do that

My GH4 works fine and its too late to question the missing 300+ photos

Thanks for reading this ...Jeff

Re: GH4 photo numbering

The GH4 does not change the numbering, but if you know how then there are ways to force a change whereby advancing is simple compared to decrementing.

Did you try time lapse ? or burst with e-shutter ? with SH Burst it takes less than 8 seconds to take 300 photos.

Re: GH4 photo numbering

Thanks for your advice ernstbk. Thats good news I want to keep the numbers in sequence. thats amazing that it will take 300 photos in certain mode and if it did I have no photos to show for it, I guess it must be a demo sold as new but in any case it works fine ....Thanks...Jeff.

Re: GH4 photo numbering

It is normal for a brand new in box camera to have several hundred shutter actuations from factory testing. All my new in box cameras have shown this.

I bought my E-M1 MkI open box (at an unbelievable price ... ). To determine roughly how much it had been used in store, I arbitrarily subtracted something like 200 from the shutter actuations counter. The shutter had maybe 150 additional actuations in store.

It cost me slightly more than half new price for the body alone at the time, and came as a kit with the 12-50 macro and an extra OEM battery. All parts except for the body were still factory packaged.

Hope that your intervening family matters were not dire. Commiserations if they were.
