They always say never meet your hero

75mm at wide open have enough DOF to make the subject super sharp from Ear to Ear.
While rendering the background creamy.
In my case this is my Hero Lens.
When I went back in photography and landed using Olympus OMD.
This one of the first Awesome Lens available.
But back then I can not afford it.
But I have tried it numerous times and able to shoot with it in the streets thanks to Robin.
It has been on my list... since 5 years ago.
Now that I have it.
I have nothing but Precious Memories captured by this lens.
My only regret is not getting it as soon as possible.
may I add... this a small but powerful lens..

45mm is now my backup lens

But f/1.8 leaves other eye, nose and lips then out of focus.

With m4/3 you need to stop down to f/2.8-5.6 range to get the person in focus from tip of the nose to ear, depending your distance for classical framings. F/1.8 is just too shallow and people drop out of focus.

That is what makes 4/3" format so great as for portraiture you need to stop lenses down for enough DOF, and that is why f/1.8 lenses offers if so wanted, shallower DOF than most people needs.

You can stop it down if you like, but it surely isn't necessary (all with an 85 / 1.8 wide open on APS-C -- f/1.4 mFT equivalent -- unless otherwise noted):

f/1.6 mFT equivalent

f/1.6 mFT equivalent, but, more importantly, a wicked good looking model.  : )

That is what makes 4/3" format so great as for portraiture you need to stop lenses down for enough DOF, and that is why f/1.8 lenses offers if so wanted, shallower DOF than most people needs.

I'm thinking the 75 / 1.8 is just fine wide open -- no "need" to stop it down.  That said, if one wants more DOF, sure, stop it down.

You shoot m4/3 now, got any pics to show? Since  you know so much about it.

Sorry, but for insects you really need both eyes in focus.

Like here...

Nice lenses in good hands always will give great results. As in this case.

Unfortunately half of the posted baby shots seem to be slightly back-focused. Is this due to the lighting, AF system or moving subject?

Every time I pick up this lens I'm reminded how superior it is. I wish OLY made a 150mm version.

I thought something must have gone wrong for the last image, it baffled me for a moment until I saw the caption that it was the 45mm. I am only on a tablet in forum view but the other photos are on a whole new plane. You make the 75mm look like a must buy lens for new parents. 👍

Images 6, 7 & 9 were shot with 45mm, the rest with the 75mm/1,8.

I couldn't agree more.  I bought it to use for a few months and sell on before I started paying interest...  2 years on and I still have it, and still paying interest...  It's not going anywhere. Last year my casual snaps at a family wedding upstaged the official photographer by some margin (oops!), all thanks to this lens.

I wish I had it 7 years ago when I moved to M4/3 - missed lots of years of the kids growing up that could have been documented with the stunning photo's it makes...

For anyone using M4/3 for portraits this is the first lens you should save up for.  It deserves its emerging legendary status..

Great photos Robert!!

Ahhh, in that case awesome. I feel comfortable sticking  with my Sigma 60 and will probably buy the 45 1.8 back at some point (almost rebought a number of times).
