Canon 200-400 Firmware - Any issues during/after update?

Hi all,

Canon Released a new firmware for 200-400

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/lenses/ef/super-telephoto/ef-200-400mm-f-4l-is-usm-extender-1-4x?tab=drivers_downloads

Does anyone tried to update?

Any issues?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards

Nuno

Any issues?

Hi Nuno,

Using a 1Dx Mark II with both CF and CFast installed I wasn't able to update without issues. I copied the new lens firmware to a CFast card. When starting the update process the camera couldn't locate the new firmware. When I chose to update the firmware the LCD went black and the camera locked up. After removing the battery the camera worked fine again. I then removed the CF card. Same thing, the camera still locked up. I then removed the CFast card and put the firmware on the CF card. After I did that the lens firmware updated without any issues. Test shots in single shot and AI servo look fine.

I then updated the camera to the latest firmware version with both cards installed. It loaded the firmware from the CFast card without any issues (with both CF and CFast cards installed).

I don't know why the lens firmware would not load from the CFast card, but the firmware itself looks to be functioning fine.

No issues here, went just as described in the PDF.  I did my update with a CF card in a 1Dx Mark I.

I haven't had any issues since I upgraded the firmware. I have used the 200-400 several times after the upgrade with M50, 7D mk ii and 1DX mk ii bodies without problems. I have probably not seen any improvements though I think the 7D mk ii behaved slightly better than I remember. However, that is probably just imagination. Note: All usages were normal usages and not test of the firmware upgrade. In fact, I didn't think about the firmware upgrade until I saw your last post.

Oh no! He should know by now that "equivalence" is a forbidden word for APS-C but perfectly allowed for 1” Sonys, compact cameras, smartphones and maybe even for M43s.

Re: Canon 200-400 Firmware - Any issues during/after update?

I obtained my EF 200-400mm L 1.4x used from BandH this past week. S#1100000237 came with version 1.0.0 firmware. As usual, having updated firmware in my 60D and 80D in the past, I went to the Canon Support page and downloaded the updated firmware to a 4GB card formatted first in the computer (Win 10) which showed the requested file but although my 80D recognized the file, it would not update. Then I formatted in the camera and copied the file from my computer onto the card. New file recognized and successfully loaded to the lens.
