Re: google pixel xl 2....cannot t6i

I got a t6i to have the ability to take photos of my kids  sports activities. It does a much better job than my iPhone 6s Plus at photography of sporting events. In regards to getting started with dslr the t6i includes information when switching settings as to what condition each setting is best for.  If you search my posts you can see some of the photos I have taken with it. I am happy to have the t6i.  if I had it to do over I would have gotten the t6s at the time.  One of the big changes in going from a smart phone to a dslr is the ability to switch to a more appropriate lense for what you are shooting. That said my iPhone auto mode is better than the t6i. The iPhone tends to almost always focus on what I want it to. The t6i is more fickle and often does what I have set it to do but I set it to do the wrong thing. You mileage may very.

The photographer's dilemma

I've got a Pixel 2 and have found that OTC Pixels 2 JPEGs image quality are about equal to Canon M6 raw files, after I have optimized the M6 raw files within an inch of their lives in CC 2018 ACR.

But only within the limitations of shooting with a Pixel 2.  A DSLR is better at capturing fast motion.  And real optical zoom a lot better than Pixel 2 zoom (really cropping in camera).  And framing shots on a smartphone screen in the bright sun is problematic.

A DSLR is a good complement to a Pixel 2.  But probably can't beat your Pixel 2 under similar shooting conditions (unless you need high resolution.)

You'll probably switch off.  For a while the DSLR will seem a lot better than your Pixel 2.  But eventually you might tire of dragging the DSLR everywhere and shooting within the limitations of your Pixel 2 XL all by itself will start to look good.  Until you find that you've missed shots because you didn't have your DSLR. Lather, rinse, and repeat.

The photographer's dilemma.

? Your posting history says you've had cameras in the past including a Nikon d3200.

So your question seems sketchy since you've had at least one dslr before
