Panning the magnified area in NX -series with Focus Assist

Hi everyone,

I have two Samsung NX -series cameras - an NX300 and an NX500.

I use a Canon FD with an adapter on one, a Samsung NX lens - on the other.

Both cameras have Focus Peaking and Focus Assist on. The trouble is, I can't pan the magnified area to fine-tune focus where it belongs, before the shot. This issue persons to both cameras. Such an omission! Clearly, a Samsung-specific problem, as neither Fuji, not Subtotal suffer from this issue.

A secondary issue I encountered, is that with the NX500 display in a "selfie" position, the camera won't shoot when the shutter is pressed. It prompts to "Check the lens" (with a manual lens mounted).

The firmware of both devices is the latest.

Does anyone know of a solution to any of these issues?

Thank you in advance.

The first one is truly my main issue with the cameras. There is no way around it, just move the camera, focus, and re-frame. At least the time to do all these are less than pressing buttons in other cameras, and is a technique we used to do a lot with compacts, or older bridge cameras. Also, NX has amazing touch AF, while Fuji exploring the idea only with the lateat cameras, and their touch interface is kind of primitive (Sony's is probably worst. Canon is the best after NX in my opinion).

The second one, I do not know. If the lens works normally in the other modes, then it has something to do with the automations of the Selfie mode, if they can switch off, it may work. I have used it only a few times with the 10mm and it is a great feature.

Thanks, Kisaha. 😊

How amiss of Samsung not to allow panning with Focus Assist active! I don't know whether it would help the issue, but the older versions of the firmware apparently were hack-able. Not to the current firmware. (I wonder if by downgrading to the previous firmware I might be able to activate panning in Focus Assist mode).

My X-T2, unfortunately, hasn't touch to focus at all (I wish it had. And IBIS).

Another question: do you know if the power zoom lenses (specifically, the 16-50mm F3.5 - F5.6) have manual focus? My impression is, they don't.

Thanks again...

Menu - 3rd panel - Auto self shot - off.

They have manual focus but you have to be in manual focus mode or do a half press and then turn the dial on the lens to finely tune focus.
