I need some help with updating firmware!

I cannot get my camera, Canon T2I, to recognize the update on my SD card. I have a new computer with Windows 10 on it. I have the firmware update file loaded onto my computer. I cannot however get it to go onto the SD card so that the camera will recognize it. They say to put it into the root of the card. How can I do this, nothing seems to work. Evidently I don't know how to do it or the new computer creates a problem. The ultimate goal is to eventually install Magic Lantern.

thanks so much for your help!

Download the firmware to the computer. If necessary, unzip the file to its normal size. Then copy that file to the SD card...do not put it in any folders. See if that works when you put the SD card back in the camera and turn it on.

I'm not clear on what bit you are failing on.

Are you exactly following the instructions as per:

http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/education/infobank/firmware/updating_firmware.do

How exactly are you trying to get the firmware onto the SD card?

Try formatting the SD card in the camera and then write the firmware update to it.  This should take care of any formatting issues the computer might have caused.

Re: I need some help with updating firmware!

I finally figured it out and it was the new computer that was the problem, because it had windows 10 on it. I have another computer across the room and it has windows 7 on it and I simply switched computers. Everything went as it was supposed to then. Thanks to all who tried to help, I really appreciate it.
