Canon SL2 LCD Quality

Hi,

I just picked up a refurb SL2 from Canons site. I had a few other Canon cameras before. One of the first things I noticed was the LCD looked more pixelated than I’m used to from Canon. Even my T3i seemed less pixelated. When I review images or look at menus I can see pixels in the text, etc.

Is that normal? When I look up the specs it has the same resolution display as the other Canon cameras that I’ve had. Is there something wrong with my SL2? Seems like such a weird issue.

If it looks different then something is wrong. It shouldn’t be different. You may want to ask for an exchange.

It has over 1 million pixels in a tiny screen.

I just emailed Canon support. Hopefully they’ll replace it. Such a strange issue. I can’t think of what could cause that. Maybe this one had a broken screen and they replaced it with a lesser quality one?

No idea but it’s noticeably worse than any other Canon camera I’ve owned, and I’ve had several. I’ll update when I hear back from Canon.

Thanks for the response!

I'm going to bet that there's nothing wrong with it. That doesn't sound like the kind of problem that would be a factory defect.  If you replace it or fix it, you are likely to find no change. If I were you, I would compare it with others in the store. Also try resetting the camera to factory defaults.

I was at Target today and looked at a T6i. The screen was way less pixelated. My SL2 should have the same pixel density as the T6i. I really can’t explain it, it’s a strange issue. I did try a factory reset as well, no change.

I’ll see what Canon says. But I would likely return the camera if they can’t fix it. I’m within my return period.

I see. I don't know, really. I looked at one, but didn't notice anything.  I would still compare it with another SL2, though.

My wife uses SL-2 and I do sometimes and I have 80D and 5D4 and the lcd screens look about the same to me. Why don't you take your SL-2 to the store and compare the LCD's?

The closest store with an SL2 on display is a Best Buy about an hour from me. I will be stopping by this weekend though. I’ll update after that!

Otherwise the SL2 has been great. I am really OCD about this sort of thing unfortunately.

You should be, my SL2 screen looks about the same as my 6D, which means, great.

Agree that you should be about this.  It sounds like it may be defective.

The first buyer probably returned it for the same reason and Canon didn't check over the camera  not unexpected  refurbished items are returned purchases

No, 1 million dots, not pixels  3 colors go into a pixel so it's 330,000 pixels

Yeah, you're right, but it's still plenty.
