Can't clean off sensor spots on Lumix G7.

Several month old Lumix G7 with dust spots appearing in my photos. I proved it is not one lens so apparently the sensor. I have cleaned the sensor many times , do not see by eye anything on the sensor, and yet the spots appear in the same place always. I'm not sure where to go from here. Try a new cleaning fluid? I am using what came with a camera cleaning kit from VDust. Is replacing the sensor a viable option? Thanks for any suggestions.

I cannot really say but wet cleaning in my opinion is only a last resort when all else fails.

Only once have I had to resort to wet cleaning as a little blast of air will usually shift loose dust pretty quickly and completely.

If you have resinous spots on the sensor they will be stick mightily and wet cleaning will only gradually dilute them and spread smudges over the sensor surface.  In a serious large resinous spot it might take many cleans to dilute and remove the original culprit and then you have to clean further to remove the watermark of the diluted resin in the form of a smudge.

Best solution is to be very careful where and how lenses are changed.  In my case I changed lenses under a dry bush on an open camera backpack.  I realised later that the “dry” bush was in fact “raining” tiny droplets of resin.

However if wet cleaning has failed and is continuing to fail then perhaps the only solution is to have the sensor professionally cleaned.

If the camera is under warranty and no contamination is visible, it may be worth investigating to see if this is a sensor defect. There have been occasional reports of some sensors having inclusions in one of the layers that shows as dust spots, but of course are impossible to remove.

My GX85 developed a sensor spot early in its life which was found by a professional cleaner to by under the surface. I had this confirmed with a binocular surgical operating microscope which enhances the 3D view.

Panasonic Australia replaced the sensor under warranty.

Here in the UK you can have your sensor cleaned for about £30 and I assume that you can a similar service in most places.  My one gripe about my Panasonic cameras is that I have always picked up sensor dust.  In a few years of owning Olys I never had a single spot.

This! If normal cleaning the sensor hasn’t done the job, I’m almost certain you have debris between the sensor surface and the top glass. I have some in the top right of my GM5. They’re only visible above f8 and with a clear sky. Easily fixed in post.

It cannot be repaired! Only fix is a sensor replacement. Not cost effective unless still in warranty. Panasonic will by all accounts fix if in warranty as the unit is sealed and should not have spots enter in service. I’m out of warranty.

I’m over stressing about it as it’s neither my main body nor used often in such conditions and if I’m likely to want a compact and I’ll be shooting with bright skies, I have a GF8 or other options to take.

I know this was in 2018.    and I am responding in 2021.    I  did a search on this issue because I have purchased 2 Panasonic G7 and they both have this issue only a few months after purchase,  I feel like it is a flaw with this camera. and I hate to admit that.

Actually I am glad you brought this back up.

I have a particle on my Fuji sensor that has defied all methods of removal.

I fear as, one post mention, it is between the sensor and the glass surface cover.

My only mitigation is to fix in post when it shows up.

My GX7 somehow picked up debris of some kind UNDER the AA filter.  The repair shop had to disassemble the filter stack.  If I took it to Panasonic they would've charged me to replace the entire sensor housing which would have been really expensive.
