7iii front focus conclusion.
18

My a7riii came in. I tested it already. Wife walking towards me, no issues. Eye af? No issues.

Front focus issue? Doesn't have it. It focuses literally exactly where I tell it to.

So somehow, I literally did just get two faulty bodies.

I think it is obvious that you did.  I believe you should send me one of those worthless bodies as I need a nice looking paperweight.

As for your own problem, probably a return to a SLT or SLT camera would give you the  front/back focus issues that used to be so much fun playing with micro adjustments to remove.

I just never truly believed that out all of the bodies out there, I got two in a row that were bad. But at this point there's no other conclusion.

The 7riii puts focus literally EXACTLY where I tell it to.

Good work! This was the first time that I heard about a bad Sony camera body.

Maybe you can post a photo of using A7RIII and include settings?

So happy for you.  It was brave of you to get a new model before they had a chance to get all the bugs worked out.  Remember that all things happen for a reason and you were destine to have the A7RIII.

I remember I got two A580s in a row with back focus issues, but it didn't have mirco adjust, so back they went.  That was a depressing few days.

That's fate, and perseverance.  The A7R III is a mighty fine camera.

What I meant to say was regarding Eye AF testing. Can you please do a close-up Eye AF using AFC and F1.8, and see if the nose is in focus instead?

Sure! Replicated the 7iii shots, and focus is right on the iris. Closer, same thing. Further away, same thing. It just grabs the eye correctly, like my 6500.

Did you send the bodies back?

As an aside, did you try doing the in-camera cleaning mode to try to reset the IBIS? Sometimes we've seen the IBIS get out of wack, and doing the cleaning resets it. But it could have been just two faulty units in a row.

Good to hear you finally have a working body!!

I still wonder what was wrong with your two A7 III bodies. Is Sony going to take a look at them or no?

Just got finished packing up the second 7iii to ship back to adorama. I can't troubleshoot with it anymore.

Although I can't imagine with IBIS would cause front focus. Out of focus shots sure, but that wasn't my problem. The problem was that the camera consistently focused in front of where you told them to.

At this point I just hope everyone else has good experiences with their 7iii's! And I plan to try again in a couple months. Maybe mid summer I will pick up another 7iii after I know for a fact the first batches are sold out.

Not quite sure. They took down my serial #s so I'd guess they flagged them for review in the system, although I don't know that to be fact.

I am returning the cameras to where I got them for refunds, but I'm sure the cameras eventually get back to sony HQ. You'd think, at least.

Does the in-camera cleaning reset the IBIS? I have not read it elsewhere. Is this in the user manual? Thanks.

Thank you! That is sharp Eye AF indeed!

I have not used my A7RIII a lot yet. But I have on my A7RII and A6500. I also had A7II and A6000. With my copy of A7RIII, I have found the AF-C Eye-AF works the best with Face Detect off. With Face Detect on, it sometimes focuses at the nose.

If you can verify/reject that with your A7RIII, it would be very helpful. Since you have demonstrated a lot of good testings with your Sony gears. Your results will be trusted.
