Minolta X-700 Japan and Korea version

Hi,

I live in Korea and I wonder what is the difference between the 2 version of X-700 by Minolta Japan and by Samsung Korea ? what is the advantage and disadvantage when comparing them and which one should I buy ? The Japan version is a litle more expensive (~20$).

If you have any experience on them, please share with me. Thank you very much.

Here is a different version of that camera :

Samsung did make some cameras for Minolta and had some sort of exchange of technology.

I had a Samsung Annual Report ( a thick glossy publication) that had under the Samsung Techwin section  alongside other products (like Rollei cameras)  a photo of a Minolta 9000. I was not able to find any more info from either Samsung or Minolta.

"Samsung" in Korean mean "three stars". I've read somewhere that in the 80s, Korean prefer domesticmore than imported product, especially from Japan (they really hate Japan, because Japan invaded them previously). Samsung buy the copyright from Minolta and rebrand the camera.

But I still wonder there is any different between them. In the market, Japan version (MPS) is slightly more expensive.

I've not seen this "3 star" Samsung variant before. But I suspect that the camera itself is not different in any meaningful way from those made in Japan. Production of this camera at some later life-span point moved from Japan to China... and there many people have assumed that the quality of the X-700 from China was less than the earlier ones from Japan. No idea if there is any factual basis for that.

The Rokkor Files section on the X-700 makes no mention of production countries. But you'll find a detailed review of features/capabilities that you can compare to the Samsung model.

Some X700, X300 and X370 were also made in Malaysia.

here is a weird hybrid from the Seagull factory, the one that made the last of the 300/370 and X700.

Mostly an X370 but with the TTL flash of the X700. Takes of course Minolta lenses and the Winder G.

I heard that the samsung model uses the electrolytic condenser because of reduction of price and the MPS uses the tantal condenser. And the lower hull material is different as far as I know. The result is it is not that very different. Btw, I haven't seen that samsung mark before.

When did Samsung cease production of the X-700?
