Returned to Samsung yet again!
3

The NX300 inspired my return to amateur photography about 4 years ago. I am self described OCD and suffer from gear accusation syndrome too! So this drove me through many cycles of upgrades and downgrades with Samsung, Sony, Fuji and Nikon! I have owned nearly every Samsung lens and camera body at some point.  Through all that I have shot many great photos too. Mostly family and vacation photos, nothing to frame as art.

Anyway, recently I decided to reorganize my photos and in doing so discovered that the most eye pleasing photos cane from my Samsung gear which I had no longer owned any of.

My RX100 M3 is my go to for a pocketable travel camera. My RX10 M1 purchased used at a great price is my affordable sports and kids school event camera. Not nearly as nice as my old Samsung S lenses with NX1  performed, but at just a fraction of the price and it is acceptable.

That left me with a big gap however. For my travel photography, neither gave the level of results I wanted or an ultra wide option that I love. So.....

I have now added back in a mint NX30 that I was super lucky to get on EBay for $200. I used the old “parts” trick to get a 12-24 to fill a gap in my gear line up. Coming back to this system was like seeing a good friend after a long time away. A true pleasure to use and handle. Great color and dynamic range.

I will not be going all in on the system this time as it is tough to get really great prices anymore and used gear is now more of a gamble with the age. I will likely add a lens or two if the right opportunity arises.

Welcome back! There are a lot of people selling now, or soon. I predict the prices will come down dramatically after summer, except maybe the 50-150.

You mean samsungparts still sell in bulk prices? I resisted the urge back then (and no really need for one either), but the aforementioned 50-150 still haunts my dreams!

They do still sell many of the lens “parts”, but prices are up.  Stock is exhausted on some models. For example, Samsung is completely out of Black 30mm and Black 20mm lenses. The 45mm can still be had for $165 in the “A” variation.   I found Encompass Parts in the US often has better prices, but not always. A couple years ago I got a 12-24 for $140 using this method. I just had one delivered yesterday from Encompass for $210. Still a great price for a new lens. The 12-24 was actually in stock at the US warehouse, but otherwise the wait is 2 to 4 weeks. They order direct from South Korea. SamsungParts must air ship, while Encompass ships by boat or some form of very slow shipping. I’ve done this many times and always been happy. Always perfect with front and rear caps, newest firmware loaded. Hoods must be ordered separate for about $15, however.

Also, I’m not sure that the 50-150 S is still available. SamsungParts shows it “coming soon”. Encompass shows it available, but they do not do a great job on updating factory availability. If it is available, they have it for $797. You must be logged in to see the lower price.
