Canon 300mm f2.8 and 600mm f4 image stabiliser problems?

HI,

I've recently been fortunate enough to get hold of a 600mm f4 ii and i'm worried about the image stabiliser.

The problem is the stabiliser rattles loudly when the lens is moved while a body is not attached. furthermore, when in use in mode 1, the IS makes a clunking noise. It's incredibly loud and sounds like metal scraping on metal (nothing like the noise my 100-400 makes). I had a similar problem with my 300mm f2.8 ii, on which the IS now doesn't work at all and needs repairing.

I was wondering if anyone else has any experience of this? I'm worried the problem is caused by a fault in my body?

Thanks

You need to power down the body first before unmounting the lens. See my other thread:

The funny thing is, I've never encountered the same problem on my 400mm and 200mm.  Maybe the symptom only happens when the IS was engaged during the lens dismount?
