It has a better version of Oly's IBIS.  Otherwise not much difference.  The older IBIS on the 5 and below is really bad and can ruin more shots than it saves.

I'm going to have to disagree with this.  The question was P5 vs PL7.  I'm guessing you were answering PL5 vs PL7.

Every once in a while I think about upgrading my old P3.  The only advantages I can think of for the PL7 is that it is a bit smaller and has live composite if you need that.  Oh, and a selfie screen.  For my consideration the P5 has more advantages - 2 control dials +a 2-way switch vs 1 control dial for the PL7.  I think P5 has 5-axis IBIS while the PL7 has 3-axis, both do a nice job.

The E-P5 (2013 vintage) is heavier but has a better set of controls, that is, a front and rear adjust dial, plus a 1-2 lever to allow certain selectable changes. Pop-up flash in the body. Has 5 axis IBIS.  Flagship Pen of its day. Quite a solid performer. On its release it was plagued by shutter shock, but a firmware update fixed that. It uses the same battery as most of the OM-D bodies. The shutter goes to 1/8000 sec. possibly is a higher quality shutter than the E-PL models have, but that's just a guess. Some help with its menu functions on my page .

The E-PL7 (2014 vintage) is the Lite version of the Pen but still has a great number of features. It has the later image processing chip than the E-P5 and the significant difference (to some) is the availability of the interesting Live Composite mode. The flash is a small separate add-on that needs to be slipped into the hot-shoe and connects via the port under the hot-shoe. The tilt LCD also folds down under and faces forward below the body for the selfie obsessed out there. Has 3 axis IBIS which is theoretically not quite as good as the 5 axis IBIS, the 3 axis misses out on the shift function that can help with macro and close-ups. Shutter goes to 1/4000. Different battery to the E-P5 but same of course as all the other Pen Lites before and after it. Menus are maybe 90% the same as the E-P5 so the link above is also of help if lost in the menus.

Both, with due care, would deliver much the same image quality.

In Australia the supply of new E-PL7 seems to have dried up, but there are still new E-P5 available and at a cheaper price than any of the E-PL models.
