Canon 1000d still going strong.
9

For anyone thing of buying a cheap DSLR pre-owned .... I say go for it. I bought the 1000d for two hundred bucks with two lenses. I bought a ef-s 55-250 IS ii lens last week which arrived Easter Saturday. Great timing as we had a photo expedition planned, and I had a cheeky little visitor at home two. More images here and here , sorry too many to post on the forums.

Heres a couple to give you an idea of what this older camera can do.

I think the 1000D is a perfectly good camera for anyone with basic needs. I have a 350D which I still use occasionally. My only reasons for upgrading were low light performance and tilty flippy screen, thus the 200D.

While it's clean and all systems working, an old camera is a fine instrument to work with.  I use a Nikon D300, which is 8 years old and has in excess of 100,000 clicks.  The autofocus is quick and precise, the colors are beautiful, the interface is awesome.  That camera does everything perfectly.  Unless you need to take night photographs in hot weather, older cameras are the photographer's best friends!!!  Here's a snap!

Shot in broad daylight under a tree.  Strong flash used to light-up subject and cut shadows.

EOS 1000D is still my main camera, with EOS M as a backup.

Yep its my main camera for the next wee while. I do however have my eye on an X-T100 as a second cameras. The EOS M50 is just a little too expensive here.

I have one of these paid $85 CAD for the body from Craigslist.  It makes a fine camera for every day shooting.

As expected, for BIF I do find the AF lacking.

Its an old camera now but I really liked what I got from it. Almost looks a little film like. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that my 700D has, but I'm finding I'm not getting on with my 700D, preferred my 650D and the little 1000D. I'm looking at getting another 1000D and selling the newer camera until I decide what I want as a replacement.

Curious to know what about the 1000D do you like better than your more current camera?

Re: Canon 1000d still going strong.

I love the EOS 1000D for it's simplicity and ergonomic. I only need raw files, i don't need bells and whistles. The original EOS M is too light for me (causing tremor) and the M50 is terrible in my hand, worse than the M.

Re: Canon 1000d still going strong.

I started with the 450D, my first DSLR.  It is the sibling of the 1000D and came out around the same time.  I love that camera and still have it to this day.  I will never get rid of it because it is how I learned everything.  It only goes to ISO 1600 but I love how it made me work to learn the camera limits (though back then in 2008 ISO 1600 was not very low).  I also love how it does have an older film like look with those older sensors, especially when you push the ISO (instead of a nasty noisy look).

Its smaller and lighter for starters and a lot more simplistic. Sharp well balanced images straight out of camera.

I am getting on better with the 700D now, still getting used to it. For two cameras that look identical I cant believe how different the 700D is to my old 650D.

I think the biggest things has been recognising that the 700D works better at higher ISO and likes quite a bit more light to get it to work well. I'm still not one hundred percent sold on its sharpness as yet. I still think the 650D was giving more detail and sharpness out of camera. I posted some recent test images on my blog here  with the 55-250 mounted on the camera.

I feel the same about my 1100D. Had it for 7 years now and haverhave always preferred it over my 80D.  Used 6D prices here are almost reasonable now, so thinking of selling the 80D for a 6D as I think it will fit my style/usage better.

Was taking some test shots the other night with my XSI (450D) which was my very first DSLR vs my 6D2 and I must say the XSI does have a more film look.  Especially when I push the ISO to 1600 (the max ISO) just for the grain you get which is very film like.  I have always loved the way the XSI (and I am sure many of the older cameras) handled noise at its max ISO.  With that said my 6D2 is very sharp and can use very high ISO levels.  So it is nice having option.

Yep there  is something aesthetically pleasing about the files from the earlier Canon Rebel series. My 700D is a good unit but I have found that the 1000D just produced really nice images with a little grain and it always printed well on Pearl or Matt finish papers.

I also find the noise from my 1100D more tolerable than my 80D.

I can see the Canon marketing crew scratching their heads over that. What ? They want more grainy noise now!! And just when they thought they had it right with noise free sensors.
