Let's talk about the 16-50pz

Personally I think that this is a very underrated lens.

It has advantages over the s lens version in that it's lighter and less bulky  and that it's possible to zoom in and remotely using a smartphone, something you can't do with any other lens.

On top of this it's much cheaper than the s lens.

Currently my s lens is more or less glued to my nx1, however if I  want to travel light with my nx500 I'll more often that not attach the pz, as its versatile, and better for video.

Anyone else loving using this lens?

My impression is that is the best cheap PZ lens in the industry. I think Panasonic has a new one though, which I haven't use, so I am not sure.

I have sometimes used it in pro gimbal work, stop-ed down a bit, and if you avoid the extremes (I start from 18-20mm, the 16-18mm aren't very good in the ones I have tried) the results are truly outstanding, but for more demanding work (night shots, micro contrast, overal contrast, opposite to big light sources, bokeh e.t.c) the S shows its worth.

Another 2 pluses, very fast AF, sometimes lightning fast, and the stabilization is ok, for such a cheap lens.

My impression is, most amateurs - if not all - will be very happy with this PZ lens, unlike e.g the Sony one (for Sony APS-C, my favorite "kit" lens, is the 18-105, excellent, cheap, covers a lot of focal lengths, great stabilization, but not that wide).

I have it permanently on my NX3000 that we have around and take casual family photos and whatnot. For the rest, I prefer something with more character (45mm/10mm, maybe a legacy lens).

The lens is very good optically but I don’t use it much because I hate PZs. I need a nice zoom ring.

I liked the image quality and its smallness and hated the powerzoom. Obviously it doesn't like bicycles, since it's decentered now after two summers on the NX2000 I carried around when riding my bike.

I think many know this is a very good lens. It's possible its low price makes some assume it must be average.

I love it. Very little else on other platforms come close. Nikon 1 6.7-13mm (18-35mm in FF) is great and small but 3x plus in cost. Panasonic 14-42mm MK 2 is maybe closest I've used that is even cheaper (around £80 2nd hand).

I've often remarked that...
1

...some kit lenses (by whatever brand) can be so good that they often rival the big boys optically - short of them not having a constant F2.8, that is. And such is the case for the 16-50 PZ lens from Samsung. Of course, you have to throw in the caveat, "if you have a good copy" as kit lenses across the brand spectrum are often notorious for having copy-to-copy variations in optical quality.

I have 3 of these 16-50 PZ lenses - all excellent copies. I obviously keep one on my NX500 and the clarity levels I've gotten with this combo are superb. Same with my NX300. I'd say with regards to PZ technology this Samsung 16-50 is one of the best (if not best) design on the market - even today!

I've periodically read threads in which the posters maligned this lens - and I'd be shaking my head in disbelief while reading them. But I guess the old adage, "different strokes for different folks" applies here.

Unfortunately, at one time there were countless new copies (often separated from the kit) on eBay, and it was not unusual to be able to scarf one up for only $125 - $150.  But not anymore - just a few used ones and perhaps one or two new ones on eBay anymore.
