Which lens to purchase?

Hello,

I am brazillian and I like photographing. I will buy my first DSLR APS-C Canon EOS SL2 next month for personal use. Although the aim is mostly photography, I intend to film my own marriage celebration (I have already signed a contract with professional photographers for photos). I will travel after marriage and will take my camera with me to register the honeymoon trip (mainly photos). After that, I want to use the camera for familiar photography and portraits mostly.

This is why I need a lens from wide to normal ranges of focal length. I do not have too much money. I will be able to pay about 300-400 dollars in lenses. After some research, I found out two very good options:

1 - Canon EF-S 24mm pancake (about 200 dollars) + Canon EF-S 50mm 1.8 STM (about 170 dollars)

2 - Tamron Sp Af 17-50mm F2.8 Xr Ld Aspherical If Di-ii lens (about 450 dollars).

These are the prices in my country. I do not want to import the lenses because there is a huge problem here with delivery time.

I know Tamron would make it possible to select any of that range of focal length, and would be much comfortable for transportation (I would carry just one lens, and it would be available to shot at any time, I would not unplug it from the body while walking). The quality is pretty good for the price. However, I do not know if this advantages are more important than the 1-option advantages.

I have known the prime lenses of 1-option are great, sharp, good for videos, despite the fact that the 50mm 1.8 would allow photos in lower light environments. I just do not know how brighter f/1.8 is compared to f/2.8 from the Tamron. I do not know if the tamron lens is good for focusing on videos. Sound emitted from focusing is not a problem since I will buy a Zoom H1(n) for recording the audio separately. It is important to mention that the camera will film the marriage on a tripod. No one will probably guide it. I will just press the button before celebration, and then it will need to autofocus alone.

What do you think about these options?

Also, would you recommend other lens(es) rather than these?

Hey. I wouldn't do my celebration myself without pro support. Other than that, the choice is not bad. It will let you know what is good, what isn't, and how/where to continue with your hobby.

Fingers crossed for ya!

I can’t tell you anything about the Tamron as I don’t have it.  I have the 24 and an old metal version of the 50.  I like both the primes and I have zoomed with my feet on many occasions.  These are both excellent choices for the money.  Bab

I am not paying for filming it, because it costs a lot more. If I do not buy the camera, the marriage will be similar to 50% other marriages (with photos only). However, because I will buy it, I will have something else (the video, even if it is not professional, I will have it for a lifetime).

Whether it sounds as reasonable move or not, truly depends on ones angle of view or needs. I couldn´t care less about my wedding photos (except for wanting good value for money payed), so If anything failed, I woulnd´t be angry. If you feel it the same with video (your gear or even you can fail), then do it. The camera is not a bad choice.

EF (not EF-S) 50/1.8stm is a must. There are really few lenses with a such price per buck ratio. Maybe EFS 10-18 IS STM and 55-250 IS STM. And that's it.

Tamron you've mentioned is the first version without stabilisation. It should be optically better than second one with VC. I have the first one. It is very sharp on the wide end and lousy on the narrow end. It's noisy and doesn't focus very quickly. Maybe the sound of it annoys me to much. It is precise in LV.
