NX30 worth fixing or buy a 45mm/50-200mm?

I have recently bought an NX30 on ebay with a dead lcd. I knew it from beginning so it didn't matter much by the time I clicked on buy, was half price from other NX30's sold. I actually wanted it for my MD-mount lenses (Tokina ATX 90 2.5, MD 24 2.8, MC 58 1.4, MC 50 1.4 & M42 Helios) as I just can't use them on my NX300 & NX500 (imbalanced weight and focus peeking not so easy on lcd).

When I received it I disassembled the camera to confirm that everything is in order and that the lcd is really dead and not just some slipped connector (like my 20usd NX300) and indeed it is dead. As I am planning to use the camera for manual lenses only (or 50-200 if I get it again) I don't really mind it. But it's bugging me, I feel like that the camera without the lcd is incomplete! I made a call to local Samsung service in Greece, camera repairs are dealt by an independent service center and they gave me a quote of Euro 80-100 for replacing it. I know that it won't be just that (Samsung parts has the part for Euro 107+shipping+duties) as they will add taxes and their charges, so probably will come up to Euro 150+, which is the price I paid for the camera.

So I just want to hear that there's no point fixing a dead lcd as I can work with the EVF alone and should keep that money to invest it in a 45mm or 50-200mm or a couple Rokkors instead. Is there any point really to fixing it, does its lcd excel or am I good with NX300+NX lens as backup? (I am done with NX camera buying, so will not buy another NX30, already have NX10/1000/1100/300/500).

Geia sou Saki!

Did you call the service center at Rafina? and they said that they are really servicing NX cameras? That is most amazing! If they gave you a 80-100 price, why you assume that it is going to be more expensive? They do not buy from parts.USA, they have warehouses here in Europe, and official service centers do not buy in the official prices.

If you can find a broken NX30, that the LCD works, you can go the other way around it. Also, I have seen from time to time, parts on ebay. I haven't checked recently though.

The price that the servicing center gave you is amazing though, I would fix it for sure. NX30 is a great camera, if you do not have an NX1.

Re: NX30 worth fixing or buy a 45mm/50-200mm?

Yeah not planning for NX1, no need for such expensive camera, unless I find a broken one for peanuts then fix it. Already got NX10 for manual lenses too, NX500 for the quality.

The price is from Rafina, yes, I know it's a good price but I am not sure it is final because they will also add their service fee and shipping back plus 24% VAT.

Will give it some more consideration as I was thinking of getting the 45 and the 50-200 to finalize my samsung collection so I don't want to be spending money on a cam that I won't be using much with samsung lenses, I got 16/20/30 and the small zooms which all look kinda funny on it.

It's just the pain of pulling out the lcd  and it being black like the abyss... Perhaps I should pull it out from the hinge.

Haha! Yeah, and you save some weight also!

I have been there a couple of years ago and the guys were very helpful and no questions asked. I exchanged a PZ lens I had bought from Ebay, because I though it was slightly de-centered, and they did the exchange right away (I had to wait for 2 working days to bring back the PZ).

I am not familiar with the NX10, but the NX30 was the best Samsung camera with a viewfinder, before the NX1.

Ask for a final price, and think about it. Let as know as well. Do you have the phone number there? I want to call for a friend's NX300 that has one of this faulty dials.

Funny story. I was shooting a wedding with my 2 NX1's, and I had the 30mm on one, at one point the photographer is coming down to me furious and asks "where the heck is the f$%^$%g lens"!

That's what I mean with the pancakes on the NX30, they barely exceed the grip. Though the Minolta MD 45 2.0 pancake was a match in heaven with the NX10 lookswise.

Actually the service told me the final quote will be given once I send the camera in as there are a couple different lcd versions. That's why I am affraid of extra costs. Phone no. is 22940 23783. Mr. Kikis.

I just checked the 45mm prices on ebay. Seems like it's the time of the year to get an lcd fixed instead of buying a lens.

EBay seems quite sparse in terms of nx kit at the moment. All I can see is loads of nx 3000s or 1000s but no nx1s. I wonder if now is the ideal time to be selling?

If you plan to sell then it's a good time. NX stuff are way overpriced atm so you can get a good price. I bought my NX500 last year January when there were about 50-60 every day on sale and got it for 300 usd (almost new). Nowadays you can't get one below 500 usd.

Sakis was referring to an NX45mm lens, not NX cameras. There are plenty of NX300, and still competitive with entry level mirrorless with amazing touch screen capabilities, AMOLED screen, and ok 20megapixel APS-C sensor (some still offer 16mgpxls ones), and you can have one for 150euros + extras.

Ideal time to sell, and buying what? and in what cost?

Fuji is still behind in most things compared to NX1/NX500 (especially if you have all the lenses you need on NX, and the 16-50S and fish eye are 2 of your top 3 NX lenses, which Fuji doesn't offer). You still have to use the battery grip for headphone out(?!) and more than 15 minutes of video on the Fuji's..Battery life is laughable.

Nikon/Canon do not offer yet a pro mirrorless option (Nikon doesn't even offer a mirrorless option) and Canon has a 22mm pancake (while you have as many as 4 in NX), and a few kit zooms. Sony doesn't offer a PRO APS-C body, but for most people the a6300/a6500 can be an amazing hobby camera (I am not most people). dSLR is out of the question for me, no need for mechanical mirrors and the such, and there are the GH5/GH5s offering great value but not truly great hybrids (NX1 is decidedly far better in the photo section of the hybrid, and the cameras are MUCH bigger and MUCH heavier, even from most moderns dSLRs).

So, yes, sell. And buy what? and what if the camera you really want, is the new Nikon mirrorless scheduled (rumors) for Q1 2019? and what if that Nikon costs 3500euros, and it isn't that amazing after all? The newest Canon mirrorless cost the same and have a similar crop like a NX500, but 3 years later, and with worst AF in 4K!

There are many people (like me) that buying the cameras they want, to use them, not to resell for "profit" or as an investment (cameras are not gold, or properties, the time you put it out of its box, it has lost value, immediately).

At the moment, I am 100% sure that I do not see a clear NX system replacement. Do not sell, and use, saves you more money than resell in the first chance possible, then buy into another system, then resell, then buy another system e.t.c

I have sent it in last Friday and still waiting for a final quote. Either the part cannot be found or they are very slow

I have found another NX30 with 18-55 for approx. 250 Euro. I am considering buying it if the repair cost is too high. Will sell again the non-working lcd NX30 for 170 on ebay for parts, buy the 250 one and sell the 18-55 for another 80 so it will be free. But they are taking too much time and I can't pull the trigger, hopefully it won't fly by then.

But this general state of repairs is making me give second thoughts to it. If my 500 or new 30 breaks, then I will be out of this money. I am considering selling all my nx stuff too for approx. 1200 Euro (bodies & lenses) and buy an a7rii body to use with my Minolta manuals, FF will be a better fit too for them as there's no speedbooster for NX.

There is a speedbooster, NX-L for 420€ from Italy with excellent reviews.

Servicing costs happen to all brands, the important thing is if they still have the parts.

They are sending them to Germany, and there was a national celebration here in Greece(!), so stay positive!

I fail to comprehend how are you going to sell a broken LCD for that much money thought..

Good luck.

Don't think they send the camera there. They check first for the parts prices to give the quote then they ask you and send it.

Actually this is just an ebay price (for the whole camera as parts, not just the lcd). I am going to take it down in bits and undercut samsungparts by 50% for the major parts and put them up for sale, 170 Euro is for 5-6 major things out of the camera (sensor, mainboard, flex cables, top part & mode selector, back buttons). I see those being sold for nx30 easily on ebay so I guess there are more unserviced NX30's out there hungry for parts.

Oh! Ok. You meant the whole cam. Yes, it is possible. Another idea would be to keep the other NX30 for your own spare parts.

Is it possible the NX30 screen to be the same as the NX300? There used to be some NX300 LCD screens on ebay, not long ago. They are 3.3" thought. I am not sure about the NX30.

Let us know, in anyway.
