E-M1 & 4/3's 14-54mm - Frozen Waterfall
8

Went to one of my local waterfalls today to try a few different settings on my E-M1.

There was a truly underwhelming amount of water going over the falls so I thought I'd try juxtapositioning the frozen water (ice mounds, icicles) with a long time exposure for the moving water in the background. One element frozen in time, one element flowing in motion.

Used the superb Four Thirds's 14-54mm II lens via adapter. The 14-54mm II is only slightly bigger than the Micro 12-40mm, has good, quick focus and always delivers the goods. I use it and the 4/3's 50-200mm with my E-M1 kit and save the Micro lenses for the E-P5 kit.

Cheers,

Douglas Brown

Nice shot Doug, and nice to see you back in the 'hood, too!

Any idea why the rollover EXIF says Oly 12-60?

That's because it was in fact the Digital Zuiko 12-60mm instead of the 14-54mm II   : )

Sorry about that. I have both lenses and usually carry the 14-54mm II . Forgot I switched for today.

We love that lens too, even if it's a bit bigger.

Absolutely.

I've  never understood why Olympus abandoned the 12-60mm + 50-200mm tandem. It was one of the best combos in photography. Together those two lenses could cover 90 percent of most people's everyday requirements and Olympus let Panasonic walk off with those focal ranges.

Replicating these two HG lenses in m4/3's should been the first serious lenses they produced for the system after the necessary smaller, lighter, slower lenses needed to grow the micro ecosystem  were out.

Still have mine, and the ECs. (Also some SHGs, a whole other topic.) Four-thirds lives!

What are you shooting commercially these days? Have you finagled a demo of the E-M1ii?

Rick

I shot for WENN (World Entertainment News Network) for a while after I moved out of Toronto a few years back but now I am basically retired from commercial work.

The media world these days is a really sick industry.

Sorry to hear that, always enjoyed your tales from the front lines.
