Panasonic G9 question

Spanner C tab of the menus, page 4 of 6 (or, if you like, the one with a control dial turning icon). Auto Reiew, and set it to you desired timing or behaviour (I have it on Hold myself, so I don't feel hurried and clear it on touching the shutter button).

PS - Just reminded me, in case it's helpful to know, you can assign playback to lots of buttons if you don't like the left hand position of the actual button.

Congrats on the new camera. I also just purchased a G9 yesterday which will replace my GH4. Haven’t tested it out fully yet either.

I REALLY like the size and grip of the G9. Extremely nice to hold and use.

The only issue with assigning playback to the left (or any other “arrow”) is that it cannot be pressed again to cancel.  But a soft press of the shutter will do this - which seems natural.  Furthermore if the Left “arrow” is used then the next press will start walking back through previous captures which also seems a natural extension of thoughtful ergonomics.

The “regular” playback button still works and in a more leisurely circumstance can be used for access.

I am in the opposite camp - I switch off auto playback on all my cameras as it distracts me.  This probably means that I tend to need to actually use  playback button more often than most.  Although I usually take quite a lot of images before I feel the need to check once the camera has had a test shot or two.

My set to “off” playback setting is probably why the Sony A7R convoluted manual playback access drives me to distraction.  Also the fact that the E-M1 (at least) has no buffering of a playback request by button press.  Unlike other cameras you have to wait until all images have been saved before the camera will respond to a playback press.  Not that you get an instant response anyway - but cameras such as made by Panasonic will buffer the playback button and pop into playback mode as soon as the buffer has been cleared.  Little things ....

In programming terms it is as simple as setting a “flag” and testing it after a save session.

How did I miss this?
