Yongnuo remote compatibility issues

When I had my 450D I happily used the Yongnuo RF-602RX Receiver with C1 cable and the Yongnuo RF-600TX either to remote shoot the camera or to remote fire my 430EXII flash.

Since upgrading the camera to the 700D I've had mixed results and usually the camera just goes mad firing shots when I plug the cable in.

I'm now looking at the Yongnuo rf 603 ii/C?? ~ the ?? is because places like Amazon and Ebay (UK) are either not clear whether C1, C2, C3 and I suspect that some of the "Does this work on my Canon XX" are being answered by folk who aren't clear what they've got.

I have two questions:

1) Exactly which unit should I be getting?

2) Some review questions say that anything with a /C should work on ALL Canon DSLRs, and if that is so why doesn't my existing setup work?

I've used the 603ii/c's  on everything from a T2i to an SL2. Work very well. I have 8 of them and can really light up a yard!

Should have added they 603's are not ttl, but strictly manual. If you want TTL, look at the Yongnuo 622s. Use them also and they work, never had a problem with them.

If I understand correctly the 622 is purely a flash trigger (will it work with the 430EXII?) but I also want a remote shutter which the 603 and my 600/601 combination offer.

When I've done flash off-camera I've been happy to set to manual.  It is only an occasional thing for me and I'm unlikely to have a multiple flash setup.

Re: Yongnuo remote compatibility issues

That is correct about the 622's. I use the 603's as I have different brands of flash and can fire all of them with them; 622's when I'm just using Canon. And they will fire the camera remotely.

I've just received the 603C II + C1 cable and all in all a lot of nice improvements, eg identical units, on/off switch in good position, cable can go in either way.  The one thing that is missing is a tripod mount - ok not expensive but the 602RX had it in-built.  I suppose I could piggy back onto that.  Since my last post I have ascertained that the old C1 cable is dodgy and it feels like it must have broken strands, maybe from my hanging the controller rather than attaching it to the flash shoe?

A couple of questions/points:

1) I expected as advertised backwards compatibility with the RF-600TX but despite setting the dip switches there is not response from the 603.  Has anyone had success with this?

2) I have a few old flashes from SLR days, a Vivitar 283 Thyrister and a National PE-300 on which I somehow recorded 33v.  Do you know if it would be safe to put them on the 603s?  I'm certainly not going to put them on the camera direct.

The old 283 is listed as 250-270 volt. I don't think I would try the old ones on the Yognuo's as newer flashes are usually 6 volt or below. I have had good luck with the amazon branded manual flashes--$28,
