Disney World with m43
26

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share some photos I took from a recent trip to Disney World. I like taking photos at night there as everything looks so nice lit up like it is. I've been tempted by a larger sensor camera for low light performance, but I am getting really good performance from my m43 kit.

These photos were all taken handheld with either my GX7 or GH4 and processed in Lightroom on my iPad. I don't even take a laptop on vacation with me anymore. I'm just a hobbyist but I really enjoy photography.

I know Disney photos are like cat photos as in there's a lot of them. Hope you enjoy nonetheless.

I find Disney a pretty hard place to get good photos, since most of the subjects are way too boring.

Considering that, you did a very good job!

Nice shots!  The water drop is very cool! I like how you framed the snowman shot.  And the castle is beautiful!

Very enjoyable. There is always room for more cool shots at Disney. My son is there stuck in traffic as we speak. Enjoy

Thanks everyone!  Lenses I used were the Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 (v1), 20mm f1.7 and 25mm f1.4.

I've been to Disney many times and these are very nice images! Not typical and I agree about Disney at night....I love it. I own m43 kit and a full frame Canon and I would choose the m43 for a Disney trip every single time.

These are all extremely nice, despite using a Panasonic body.

Just kidding. In anyone's book, these are excellent images. I use and adore my PanaLeica 25mm f/1.4 lens since 2011.

Disney World boring?

Boring? Friends of ours went to Disney World, spent three days, and came back saying it was boring and three days were too many. My wife and I went a year later, spend 8 days, and came back thinking we had not been able to absorb it all, pining for another visit.

I think boring comes from boring people and not boring locales or subjects.

Nice colorful pictures.  I have a soft spot for the pictures of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, as we now stay there when we go down to mouse land.  It is really nice to be sipping coffee/tea in the morning and watching the animals outside our hotel room.

In my first marriage, my wife was the foreign military liaison officer, and part of her job was to take foreign officers to Disney. So, for a couple of years, I went a lot.

I think you either love Disney, or you don't. There aren't many in between. Fortunately for the company, it seems quite a lot of people love it. I can take it in very small doses.

It's not that Disney is "boring," so much as that it is just utterly relentless. At some level, I appreciate and admire what they've achieved. But it's not for me. I have friends who have year-long passes and go many times a year. My wife has a cousin whose husband works for Disney and caters to well-heeled fans who own homes and live on a Disney property. I don't profess to understand the attraction, and the affection, but I acknowledge that it is real.

All that said, there are photo opportunities you'll find no place else, if that's the subject that interests you.

Icons of American culture

Thank you for your insight, Dave. My own experience tells me the same as yours; it seems you either love Disney or can easily enough do without. I will always have a soft spot for Disney, as I do for the Peanuts characters. Born in 1952, I grew up with those icons of American culture.

Solid and varied set--well done! Good use of the magic hour (in the Magic Kingdom no less) and the water blob really has me scratching my head.

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks, Rick!  Haha... that water blob is one of the jumping water columns in Epcot.  I had fun shooting them after watching them for a bit to see the timing and better anticipate when a new one would appear.

Here's another interesting view in the same spot.
