eos m10 side screw thread

Is there anyone who knows what kind of thread Canon put on the side of the eos m10? I didn't find it in the manual, nor on the web. It could be used for some kind of custom grip.

I believe that's to attach the GR-E3 grip accessory.

Yes, you are right, but I was wondering if I could do something slightly bigger myself.

Re: eos m10 side screw thread

I can try to get a measurement in the next few days, but it might be tricky to find a screw with threads of matching depth and pitch. If you are considering making your own grip, I can tell you that the official grip does not screw in very deeply and while strong enough to secure the slim form of the oem one, I would not recommend making, say, a wooden slr style grip using that thread as the only attachment. I don't think it's meant to hold much weight, especially for longer lenses. The oem grip is molded to fit the contour of the body and has an inner felt-like backing. I would certainly recommend it unless you would rather make your own, in which case modifying an existing one might make more sense than starting from scratch. I believe there is also a metal aftermarket grip that screws into the tripod mount on the bottom. Hope this helps, best of luck!

You could try contacting Canon service to see if the screw is available as a replacement part and possibly avoid buying the grip itself.

Thank you both, for your thoughts. I assume it should be some kind of standardized thread. Maybe tamaraw35 has a point, that this is a relatively small thread, and the part should fit perfectly to distribute stress, especially if I would like something bigger.

Are you considering something Hasselblad did with Sony cameras   Wasn't a great success. But surely, an external grip could be nice.
