T6 view finder help

Good day all.  I am new to DLSR, just graduated from a bridge camera.  I really prefer to use the view finder and always have....was one of the reasons I left the bridge with it's electronic viewfinder.

Something about the layout of the camera and my face don't jive.  Using my right eye I can't get a comfortable hold on the camera.  I also can't see the info at the bottom without physically readjusting my face to the eye piece.  Using my left eye is better, but my vision is quite different in the two eyes and I have to adjust the diopter for each eye.

Is there an add on accessory that changes this layout like an extension?  I have an eye cup and it helps but wonder if something is better.  Or is this just a learning curve I have to suffer through?

thanks so much,

Re: T6 view finder help

Hmmm.  The only way I can see holding the camera being uncomfortable is if you are gripping it with both hands.  Using the left hand to support the lens (from underneath) is much preferred.  This would also let you get your eye closer to the viewfinder.

If you're already holding in this manner, then IMHO it'd just be a matter of getting used to the new body.

Two other things you might consider are losing the (accessory) eyecup in order to get your eye closer to the viewfinder, and also seeing if there is a battery grip available for your particular camera model.

Happy shooting!

thanks so much,

I believe Canon markets a relatively inexpensive accessory called the EP-EX15 II, which is an eyepiece extender. Sounds like this could be what you need. It effectively (using optics in a small housing which slides onto the eyepiece like the eyecup does) extends the eyepiece outwards by 15mm, with the side-effect of making the viewfinder image a fair amount smaller. Might be worth a try from somewhere with a return policy? There is also still the original EP-EX15, which doesn't seem to have quite as many models listed as compatible, but which is still available. I don't know what the difference is, as they look very similar.

Re: T6 view finder help

I took a couple of quick shots since my post and noticed I was automatically going to my left eye.

When I forced going to right I paid attention and realized my nose is hitting on the view screen.  I have to force camera against my nose or turn my head at an uncomfortable angle.  This was without the eye cup.

I don't have my old camera any longer but from looking at photo it appears to have had a somewhat extended eye piece.

Definitely look out for that EP-EX15 II, then, as it will form a similar housing.  Might be enough to help you.

By the way, there are much nicer electronic viewfinders (larger, higher res) in mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras than the ones on your old camera, nowadays (was it a Sony Cybershot HX200V?  If so, there is literally no comparison).  Ironically, I prefer them to the somewhat small optical reflex finders in APS-C DSLRs.  Mind you, you are probably totally aware of this and still prefer a DSLR, as many do.

It's the 4-point grip (2 hands, eyebrow, and nose). Makes it more stable, LOL!

All cameras take time to get used to. It'll come.
