55-200mm EF-M wonderful lens!

Just scooped up this lens and negotiated at $125 used, person really needed to sell it ASAP, couldn't be happier.

Tested it out at the local park, sunny today with clear skies 67degrees F. Sharp enough for me and super compact! Perfect to take along with me on my next vacation.

Autofocus on the M3 and this lens is pretty fast, didn't have much lag at all. All shots were handheld. Anyone know how to turn off the IS if let's say I put it on a tripod?

Hey. Nice set, and awesome deal!

Hope you enjoy. Do you use it as an "general outside walkabout lens"?

hi There, it depends where i'm at.  My general walk around lens is the 17-55mm if i'm in the city, however the 55-200 is probably best for more open areas.  I just got this lens so today was my first shoot around.  Very happy with it.  I'm still waiting on the announcement of the M50 (tomorrow yay!) and hoping price drops on the M5.  Plan to walk around with M5+17-55mm & M3+55-200mm combo in my bag.  I never realized how fun it is to shoot with such telephoto distance, it really opens doors to more photos to be taken.

Hehe, also waiting for M50 release to see what it can do.

I bought 55-250mm IS STM as I like to use longer focal lenghts, and the price was also "peanuts". Too bad that this setup is not pocketable. But whatever lens you put on your M, it´s going to be fun with M.

I´m in the mode of buying JUST fun making lenses for my M6:

Samynag 8mm f/2.8 fish (can be defished well)

Samyang or Kamlan 50mm f/1.1/ 1.2

Looking for more fun!

Re: 55-200mm EF-M wonderful lens!

I picked up this lens when Canon had a refurb sale for about $190. Overall, it's a fairly decent lens at f8. Previously, I used a 55-250mm stm, which is a bit sharper at 200mm. The M lens needs to be stopped down to f11 for optimum sharpness, which makes for a very slow telephoto lens. Certainly, worth the price I paid, but $350, not to me.

Re: 55-200mm EF-M wonderful lens!

You asked about IS. There should be a switch  on the side of the lens near the lens mount. Also, be sure that you have digital IS turned OFF if you don’t have lens IS on.

There is no switch on M lenses,

AND, digital IS is only for video. It doesn't work for still photos.

Yes, I misspoke. Also, I guess the IS lenses so not have on/off switches.

The IS settings are options under Camera Menu 2; they only appear if you have an EF-M with IS lens mounted. Use the switch on the side of the lens if it's an EF or EF-S lens.

And if you get the urge to use a lens without electrical contacts you need to go into the last C.Fn menu to enable 'Release shutter w/o lens'.

Re: 55-200mm EF-M wonderful lens!

I've just bought this lens after being very happy with the 15-45mm that came with the camera. Today we went out to New Brighton where we have been before when testing new equipment out, and I feel it hasn't performed very well compared to the 14-45mm. It was a very dull day I must admit, but I felt disappointed with what I took. They weren't very sharp even after editing in DPP. I am hoping it is a one off as I wasn't too well in any case. I used the 15.45mm inside in a museum and found it very sharp.

Any help on this would be appreciated; also opinions on the 28mm macro lens which I have had my eye one. After today the temptation to trade it in for the macro is quite big :-O. Hoping it is just me having an off day and not found out yet this lens' strengths and weaknesses.

FWIW, my copy of this lens back focuses in Aperture mode. I have to put it in program mode to get sharp pics.

It's a very underrated lens. I especially like how it renders colours. Could be faster though...

What wonderful photos. These certainly give me hope now that it was just an off day. Thank you for sharing them.
