Northumberland seascapes
21

So just before Christmas i decided that i wanted to try and improve my landscape photography, ive been watching a lot of thomas heaton videos on youtube and they really are great/inspiring. As its my birthday around xmas i got the 14mm, a carbon fibre tripod and a back pack. I also went a bit crazy and bought the 50-140mm and a set of Lee seven5 filters.

Now i just had to go out and use it all, luckly we had a trip to Northumberland booked for last week, so each morning we got up early and headed for the beaches to see what we could find. Now thomas heaton really does make it look so easy but he is a very talented photographer because it most certainly is not.

We did about 5-6 miles walking each day and having it all in the back pack was great, didnt stop me getting any where and also wasnt too heavy. Im very happy with my purchases because i dont think i could have got the pictures i did without them.

Hope you enjoy them because im pretty please with them, hopefully will get one printed as that the next thing i want to do more of.

Very nice.  The 3rd from last and last images were my two personal favorites mostly because of the really interesting cliffs in the background.  I might suggest in an environment like this that you also explore doing some landscape format shots as well.  You'll sacrifice a bit of foreground and might have to change your FOV somewhat, but it would be very interesting to contrast the different look you'd get.

Nice work and thanks for sharing.

Wonderful images.  The 4th one (black rocks brown cliff background) you knocked right out of the park

Effort in, results out

Wow rarely comes w/o at least a little effort, especially in the landscape.

Wow. The last frame in the series is the first one I'd want hung on my wall.

Well, you won't have to feel ashamed about all of them

1st three okay, last three very good

I found the first three shots to be a bit boring - I live by the ocean.  The last three showed good composition, good juxtaposition, good use of SS, good use of contrast, good use of texture and shape.

The 5th image I liked until I saw the flare on the bottom right, then my eyes kept returning to the flare.  I think that image would stand up to a crop to just a "hair above the flare."

Given the choice between excellent equipment and great skill, I'll go for the skill every time.

Thanks everyone, I’m glad you all like them. I’m so happy with how they came out, although just makes me want to take more because I made a few mistakes and learned a lot. Some of the photos are from a small beach near the village of howick, while the last 3 are from dungstanburgh castle in embleton bay. It really is a gorgeous part of the country. And the last picture is just natural rock, guess it must of had some real movement to make it like that.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Hi,

Very beautiful. Great colours. Have you also taken some images with shorter exposure times?
