Canon EOS550d/T2i not holding date and time anymore

Hello all,

since few weeks, my Canon EOS 550d is not able to hold date and time when I removed the battery even for a fraction of a second. I am aware that there is no internal battery for the clock for this model and I already replaced the main PCB with no improvement. Could anyone advice what the problem may be and what part needs to be replaced?

There must be some kind of internal battery to hold the clock and other configuration information, not sure that it can be changed at all,

Is the time the only thing that get initialized each time? What about other configuration, like last file name or copyright?

Some models have a rechargeable clock battery on the PCB, this charges from the main battery so if the clock battery is completely discharged it may need to have the main battery fitted for some time before it charges fully.

I had this problem with a Samsung camera. That problem did not go away by keeping the charged battery inside the camera body

Maybe there is a lithium coin battery there that once discharged needs to be replaced. I remember having a similar problem with very old computers

Older canons, 400D and earlier have a user accessible coin battery, used to power the internal clock. However since then all bodies have a capacitor inside the body itself which is used to maintain the RTC when the main battery is out of body.

You may have to check the internet on how to best go about this.

Hi all,

Only date and time are lost, somehow the settings are saved. There is no internal battery and on the internet they suggest to replace the main PCB. I have done that with no results. Any ideas?
