That the vast majority here are discussing features, specifications, & prices... as if those are the only buying criteria.

ie.. Here we are, a bunch of camera geeks second guessing an entire marketing department of a company that has sold internationally for over 50 years..

In case you didn't notice, the company nearly went under. Add to that that the other divisions, not the camera division, were what was keeping it afloat. It is entirely possible their camera marketing department has been doing a terrible job. Don't you think?

But in recent years the camera division did a ton better and their previous E-PL8 was even less of an upgrade spec-wise from the E-PL7.

Or....maybe the recent thrust to go after the high end shooter, and at the same time address the women’s market has something to do with their change of fortunes.

A sage old guy once offered to me, “ sell the most expensive, or sell the least expensive, getting caught in between doesn’t work very well” This advice works particularly well if you are smaller than the others in the market.

Olympus, once a respected and serious photo company, recycling in "fashion accessories" to make profits ?

They need to paint the bottom of the cameras red (I wonder how many of you guys will understand that, lol).

I might wonder why women form any part of the world would wish to have a camera tool that was any different from a man with a similar level of interest in photography.

The camera looks good coming out of their expensive leather purses that won't mess up their mascaraed eyelashes.

LOL.....In this case if I could afford an LV bag, I'm pretty sure the camera I pull out will have a Red Dot on the front. A Gal has to keep up appearances.....LOL

Oooh! I had literally never heard about this until I read an article yesterday about what can and can't be trademarked. Louboutin shoes!

(For what it's worth, my teen daughter buys stuff -- including clothes, cameras, and bags -- which is monochrome or possibly dark blue. But her friends cover the whole range of colour tastes, etc, and some of them definitely choose electronics based on design and visual appeal. As do some men.)

This whole thread reminds me of a comedy sketch:

If that's what it takes to make the camera division profitable while still making enthusiast oriented cameras, there's nothing wrong with that. I'm sure practically every camera company has at least released some products in the same category.
