* This month with your Nikon 1 - February 2018
4

Looking back over the time we have been running this thread, I'm rather glad to see how the mood has changed on this forum. Do you remember the doom and gloom last January, when the DLs were delayed towards cancellation, the realization had set in that N1 might get discontinued, and we had 4 locked threads on the front page? Let me use this opportunity to thank everyone who is contributing to this forum and keeping it alive and worthwhile to visit.

So welcome to another monthly thread. Feel free to share your work either here or through individual threads on the forum, whatever you are more comfortable with.

The rules are simple:

  • Add your contribution by responding to this first message in this topic.
  • Change the subject of your message, then embed your image into the reply with whatever you’d like to say about it.
  • If you want criticism/critique (C&C) or technique feedback, say so. It’s generally assumed that you want general feedback, but direct requests make it clearer.

The title of the thread shouldn't discourage you from posting older pictures. Feel free to post anything that you found again in your archives or that you are currently working on.

Here's 3 shot last weekend. It was Anniversary Day in Auckland NZ and they had a big display down at the waterfront. Our navy was in town and there were buskers, a cruise ship, food stalls, free boat and bus tours of the port etc. We went by Ferry which made the trip even nicer. A few with the V1 and 30-110.

Nice set of photos - and I was just on  the other side of town and missed all the fun!

No doom and gloom here

Been busy with my AW-1, probably one the most maligned cameras on the market, let alone in the Nikon 1 world. But absolutely perfect for my around and in the water requirements for my fishing and general walks near the water.

Some recent shots from around the Waitemata Harbour (home the America's Cup, again!) and West Coast beaches by the waitakere Ranges.

Gone fishing ... again

The AW-1 continues to fend off saltwater, rain and fish slime ...

And I used the photo while shooting video - and amazed at how it great it works - much better than the Olympus implementation.

Full resolution picture (below) and not a hiccup in the video, brilliant!

Same place - two moods

Two shots of the same location in Vejle in Denmark.

I love to photograph the same place again and again in different light, different weather and with different processing.

Glory and curse of the Nikon 1
4

What a great system it is if it is doing what it is supposed to do:

I wouldn't want to carry the full-frame equivalent of the 70~300 CX lens, no way!

... but how limiting it is when you are bitten by its quirks:

Impossible to focus on the squirrel because the AF focus field is too large and not configurable - this would have been a sure hit with a DSLR

Cheers,
Holger

Love the photos you shared in the other red-brown thread Holgerlinke. The bright white snow is certainly a distraction for the camera, and a hard shot to get, but it is possible to get the focus to lock on small things and through the branches...

Cheers,

AF locked on a tiny fly

A young blue bird. Anyone  know the name?

The Humming bird is only thumb size - autofocus through the branches - he is nice and bright.

Nice set of birds! Is the 747 being scrapped?! Does seem so, as it has no engines.

That heron and the blue tit shots are as good as any I've seen!

the 747 and airbus are being scrapped at the local airfield, it's an ex military base and they currently have 2 747's lined up so hoping to pop down on Thursday and get them together. Many thanks for the comments
