Early G9 bug?

Today, while resetting my G9’s custom settings, the camera would not let me use the AF-C focus mode. When I turned the camera on with the focus mode switch set to AF-C, I got a message saying “switch to AF-S”. No amount of trying to find work arounds enabled the AF-C work. I did a complete reset. I got blackouts and all manner of EVF flickering. I had my 20mm f1.7 Pana lens on at the time. I decided to change to my Sigma 30mm f1.4 and suddenly everything was good again. I’m still not sure what to make of it. The 20mm will now only work on AF-S

I seem to remember when I used the 20mm on GF1 years ago that you couldn't access afc mode. Not sure if subsequent panny bodies did the same. On the other hand whenever I used the lens on any olympus bodies you could use afc albeit with some major autofocus motor grinding and hunting.

That’s ironic, because the 20mm is my only Panasonic lens in my bag. All my other lenses are either 3rd party or Olympus, and they all work perfectly on the G9. BTW, the Panasonic lens works perfectly, albeit slowly, on my Olympus bodies.

The Panasonic 20mm has a reputation for being a slow focusing lens as a quick search will show. Perhaps Panasonic have decided to disable AFC with this lens on the basis that the lens won't focus quickly enough to be useful.

The 20mm f1.7 has always been classed by Panasonic as incompatible with AF-C - I don't use this lens much but have only ever got it to do AF-C on Olympus bodies, where as I expected it's really too loud and slow to be much good at it.  Presumably the G9 is set up to make it really clear to the user that AF-C is simply not available (their choice).

Great! It took me about three hours of fiddling about to find out.
