To the OP, the nice thing is that you're coming from another system and probably have a collection of photos to consider just what focal lengths you really shoot, how you shoot, and where you shoot. Consider this as your guide for which lenses to pick up. Like I responded to someone else though, maybe you won't use a zoom much but if you think you might use it enough to own one, might as well get it cheap in a kit.

You could just start with the 23/2 and see what you feel you’re lacking. And maybe consider getting the 18-55 bundled, if one lens is too restrictive.

Re: Prime Lens Path for X-T20

FPrimes are addictive ... my plan was to have just the 16-50 and the 35/2 ....

As of tomorrow I have: 12/2, 16/1.4, 23/1.4, 35/2, 56/1.2, 90/2

I'm going to assume this is actually for the OP and not me.

Thank you.  You can get a lot of data with a medium long lens and a lot of frames.  IIRC that was 30 frames hand held.

I would consider buying the 80mm macro over the 90/2 for close focusing and macro capabilities and OIS.  OTOH, there are plenty of used 90/2 lenses on sale right now.

I got the 90/2 as soon as it came out because of my love of the Canon 135/2L.

If I were to do things over, I would get the 50-140/2.8 instead of the 90/2.  I would get the 80 macro before or after buying the 50-140, depending on need.

I personally like the results I get from the 56/1.2 more than what I was getting with the 50/2 I rented.  But, the 56/1.2 focus slower than the 50/2 and I agree that buying the 23/2, 35/2, and 50/2 in silver would be fashionable.

All of the light weight primes really works well with the X-T20.

90 will not feel good on X-T20, it's big lens and it does not have stabilisation. You will need high shutterspeed to get sharp images.

I know we are all different as far as what we prefer, but for the expenditure would you rather the 4 Primes or for convenience the Zoom + the 56mm Prime?

That is you trying to sell the prime option to yourself instead of being honest about the actual cost.

The X-T20 + 18-55mm = 1199

the 56mm F1.2 = 999 with the bundle 2198,-

the 90mm F2 = 949,- with the bundle 2148,-

total

The body only is 899,-

The 23mm F2 is 449,-

The 35mm F2 is 399,-

The 50mm F2 is 432,-

The 90mm is 949,-

Total 3128,- compared to 2148,- While still not having a decent wide-end option the 23mm being as wide as you can go

Your comparing a set 50% more expensive and ask which to choose. given the same expenditure............... That's being dishonest against yourself trying to defend your already pre determined choice to go with the primes.

The money invested in the 18-55mm is never lost. You can sell close to the bundle price even if you decide you'd want to shoot primes.

To answer your question. it's a rare occasion that it's not the answer but the question that is dumb.

Sorry I have written that out wrong, it should of been three lenses being the 23/35/50. Thanks for the information though.

Cheers everyone. Think I’ll get the bundle with 18-55mm & a 35mm f2 and assess after that where to go next. I am still leaning towards the WRF2 bundle, but as others have said I could always sell the kit later on and help finance another F2 lens.

Sounds like an excellent starting point.

I would also suggest buying the latest generation Peak Design Leash and Cuff straps.  Being able to quickly swap between a neck strap and a wrist strap with the 35/2 mounted on the X-T20 is great.

Excellent start. I bought my a daughter an X-T20 and those are the same two lenses she started with- 18-55 and 35 f/2 WR along with a Godox TT350F flash.

Now that’s a great gift!

I take it she was very happy with her setup?

Re: Prime Lens Path for X-T20

my 2 cents... to start:

Fuji 14 f2.8 or 16 f1.4...both really nice/good OR you don't love zooms but the 10-24 f4.0 is really good.

Fuji 23/50 f2.0...they are small, great, and silver lol!!! 90% of time f2.0 enough.

Fuji 35 f1.4...it is small and really good.

Handevision 90mm f2.4 manual focus...way smaller and lighter than the Fuji 90 f2.0 and 1/2 the price...I just picked one up a few days ago from Adorama and so far have been really happy with it.

add the 23 f1.4 later if u want/need...same with the 90 f2.0

skip the 56 but it's bug and the 90 is better.

That sounds like the right idea to me too.  I've had the 18-55 the longest of all my Fuji lenses, and even though I don't use it all that often, it does come in very handy for certain things.  I would not sell it.  The incremental price of the 18-55 when buying it with a body makes it a really good deal.

There is no rule that says you have to carry all of your lenses or bodies with you at all times, but it is nice to have some variety available if you can manage it.

With those 2 lenses you could think about the XF14 as a wider-angle next, if you like that sort of thing.  For longer, the 55-200 is a versatile choice.

All of the little F2 primes will handle great on the X-T20.

My own thoughts on the 56 and the 90 are that they are probably great lenses (I have not tried either one) but unless you are shooting them wide open for portraits a lot, I think they are too heavy for what would be an otherwise lightweight kit.

That's exactly the camera and lens combination I started with, followed by a cheap Canon adapter and then the excellent Rokinon/Samyang 12mm f2.
