L Bracket for M5 / M6

Just upgraded to the M6 from the M3 but my old generic L bracket snags the neck strap eyelet point on the M6. So looking for a new bracket and I see there are some out there for the M5 but nothing specified for the M6. Maybe the M5 bracket will fit the M6 but does anybody know ?

The base plates look the same but not sure about the height of the strap eyelet on the left side of the camera (as looking from the back of the camera).

Could anyone with an M5 measure the distance from the base of the camera upto the bottom of the eyelet on the left hand side please.  The M6 measures as 55mm so hoping the M5 is the same.....

Thanks

Tim

Re: L Bracket for M5 / M6

I bought the RRS M5 bracket hoping it would fit - no go. I also grabbed a couple of generic ‘sunway’ style versions and was not happy with the size / fit.

Will watch this thread as I’m curious if there is a good fit out there that I missed.

Re: L Bracket for M5 / M6

Thanks bmike.  When you say you weren't happy with the fit on the sunway ones, what was the problem ? snagging the eyelet or base plate fit ?

I'm thinking that if it's just the eyelet a bit of drilling with a Black and Decker might sort that

It was huge, maybe I just bought the wrong size!

Also if I remember correctly it didn't play nice when the EF adapter was on it. Will see if i have pics somewhere...

RRS told me they had a generic small camera one that should work - but I've been happy with just a small baseplate attached. I'd love an L bracket though.

Re: L Bracket for M5 / M6

Maybe I'd be better getting a bespoke bracket for the M3 which weren't available when I bought my generic bracket for my M3.  The M6 eyelet may still snag it though. I've just done a side by side comparison and the bottom of the M6 eyelet is about 2 mm lower than the M3's and it sticks out a couple of mm more than the m3.

But a bit of grinding wheel may resolve that if I got a cheapo L bracket.

I have the Henjar plate for the M5-M6 - had to file off 2 little indents on the plate - but has been working great.

Here is the Sunway I had. Can't remember the exact reason I sent it back, and I don't have any photos of it mounted - but I think it was just too large and didn't sit right on the body.

I took the RRS bracket off my M5 to test on the M6…won't fit correctly due to the raised edge on the bracket.  Simple fix was to grind down the raised edge until it fit, then used a little black enamel to cover the raw edge.  Fits well now.  Ordered a new replacement for the M5 and both are good to go.  I like the RRS bracket because of the quick connect points on both the bottom and on the "L".  I altered my Black Rapid Cross shot Breathe straps to use the Magpul QC system.

Well that is good to know. Not afraid of modifying gear, but didn’t want to hack that piece when I had it.

Hmmm.

Does the center point marking still line up? I want a one and done for tripod use but also for when using a pano / nodal head. Being able to swap with little fuss is important.

Perfect line up! And the battery doors are fully accessible on both as well. Here's a few crappy iPhone photos which may help you decide. The "L" is not on the M6 right now for extra pocketability.

A less expensive option and no grinding needed is:

http://www.hejnarphotostore.com/product-p/d035.htm

BTW, a medium cut file would do just as well as the grinder on the RRS plate.  It would take a little longer to complete though!

I have that. Works great. Its not an L bracket though.

Oops, good point...I forgot the OP was looking for the "L" too.  But with the right ball head, maybe not an absolute requirement.

I just ordered this one:

It's on the slow boat from China though, so it's gonna be awhile before I can provide any feedback.

Know if that Henjar plate fits the M50 properly ?

(I can't seem to find an email address on their site to ask them directly).

I'll be adding that plate to my wife's M50 that arrives Monday, so I can let you know if it fits or requires some minor alteration.  Most likely it will fit since the M50 is very close in size to the M5/6. The plate is flat with two small tabs for alignment/anti-twist.  At worst, one or both tabs may need some filing.

Or you can contact Chris directly at info@hejnarphotostore.com to ask.

The Hejnar M5/6 plate fits perfectly on the M50.  No filing needed and battery door fully opens.  See photos included.

Solid L-Bracket from China
4

I received my L-bracket from China today (pretty quick!) and it's solid!  Craftmanship looks good and fit is perfect.  I'm really happy with it especially for the price.
