EF-M1 / EF-M2 verson3.4

Update as follows:

1. Compatible with Z-CAM in manual focus.

2. Compatible with CANON LENS EF 85mm 1:1.2 L II USM and CANON LENS EF 50mm 1:1.2 L USM

can someone verify? I've updated mine but I don't have a canon 85mm f1.2 Used a tamron 85mm f1.8 and it frequently does not focus. Have to take an unfocused shot(clicking the shutter button) then it focuses again when i try to refocus. Eye autofocus works.

Thanks for the tip - I have both the 82/1.2 (MkI) and the 50/1.2 - neither of which were compatible with the M2 but ok on the M1.

I will update my firmware as soon as I can and report back.

You should send Viltrox details of your focus issue - they may not respond - but I think that they listen.

I wonder if anybody was able to verify whether the EF-M2 II does indeed work now with the 85/1.2 II and the 50/1.2.

I apologize for bumping - I think this thread was buried among the "Olympus demise" threads as I posted my question on the same day.

Can anyone confirm whether the EF-M2 with the latest firmware works now with the 85/1.2 II and the 50/1.2?

Reviving an old thread, as I was genuinely interested in the outcome before my viltrox adapter purchase. I have JUST received the unit and tried it on and I can confirm they work.

However, aperture does not go below 1.2 and focal length remain at 85mm unchanged. I assume this was Viltrox's solution to make the lens work by 'tricking' the lens.

I cannot confirm if 1.2 is an actual 1.2 or stepped down just shown as 1.2. Will follow up with some tests. Purely just looking from the LCD screen from the camera outcome does not seem very sharp. Also stepping down aperture seems bit weird. I am unsure if it is actually changing the aperture or locked to 1.2 but over expose the image. It seemed inconsistent. Again, will test bit more.

ONE THING that really Fxxxxx me off was the adapter very slightly touches the EM-1 MK2 the prism head when installing. Leaving a permanent hairline scratch. I have installed on E-M5 Mk1 and it did not touch the camera (0.2mm ish gap)

For quick reference, below EF glasses I have tested so far have all worked and auto focused.

canon 50mm 1.4 - worked auto focused medium speed (seemed to back focus slightly?)

canon 135mm 2.0 - worked auto focused medium speed

canon 28mm 1.8 0 - worked auto focused fast speed and seemed most accurate

canon 85mm 1.2 - worked auto focused medium speed (seemed to back focus slightly?)

canon 16-35mm 4.0 - worked auto focused slow speed ( I.S didnt seem to work from the body. Lens I.S activated after 1 shutter)

canon 100mm 2.8L - worked auto focused medium speed

Just had a play with the 85mm more.

good news is aperture change seems to work. So when stopped down to 2.8 4.0 5.6.... they do seem to work.

bad news is it definitely back focuses. It seems to be this way with the other lenses too. I have tried micro adjusting it from the camera but for some reason it does not reflect on the actual focusing. Maybe because its an adapted lens?

I am speculating it could be because I have rotated the adapter glass to get infinity focus(?) has anyone found a solution to this?

That's odd, I think I got the focus adjusted (and even overshot a bit initially) when playing around with the Viltrox and some lenses, like the Canon 50/1.8. I did rotate the lens group quite a bit too but that didn't affect the focus, just the infinity point.

Wow! I just had another go at micro adjusting the lens and it now works. -3 set point and its nail on.

focus in general is still not something I would expect from a modern camera. Probably my old canon 350d would be about the same accuracy. But hey still very usable

Awesome! In most cases native lenses beat the focusing speed of the Viltrox combo. With enough light, contrast, and patience the accuracy seems good though. When you get into really thin DOF sometimes it seems like you are missing focus when you are shooting a 3d subject.

very true. It is not accurate or fast as the native. However I am growing to like the adapter. Its fairly usable with my 28,40,50mm and I can focus on my pocket rocket daughter and not missing many shots. I am learning anything below 1.4-1.8 degrade the optical performance badly. So for my 28mm I use at 1.8, 50mm I use at 1.4, 40mm I use at 2.0 and they are in usable quality.
I wont bother using 85mm 1.2 though it works I find some inconsistencies in all sorts of areas

Backwards FL conversion calculation
1

"I could get a 100 f2.0 usm for U$500 and get 141mm f1.4!"

No. A FL reduction of 0.71x turns a 100mm f2 into a 71mm f1.4, which isn't a huge advantage over the Olympus 75mm f1.8. OTOH, a Canon EF 200mm f2.8 L Mk II becomes a 142mm f2.0, which could be handy. OTOOH, a Canon EF 135mm f2 could be used with a non-focal-reducing AF adapter, which would probably yield sharper results. OTOOOH, the 200 Mk II is listed as compatible with Viltrox adapters, but the 135 is not.

Makes my head spin...
