The answer to that question is the same as it was when you asked it six years ago !   , I take it you didn't bother updating ?

You didn't reply to your own thread either , so there's no way of knowing if you had a problem with it .

Just make sure you've got a fully charged battery in good condition , that won't die on you .

I don't know why, but I enjoyed this immensely.

Re: 7D Firmware update

You're absolutely correct and I did go back to check and saw your response from 2011.  Thank you.  I did just try to follow the directions from your response.  I believe I followed all the steps correctly and yet the camera cannot seem to read the card.  I get "no images" and yet I know that the update did in fact transfer over onto the card.

Konica Minolta Europe have v1.10e on their website. Actually, still have updates for lots of models.

Konica Minolta support .com have a pdf of the instructions for dynax 7d v110e firmware update installation. I can't link it, it goes straight to download.

Re: 7D Firmware update

Somethings being done wrong then .

I remember when I tried doing the first firmware update on a camera it wouldn't work .

.

The way I found to do it in a way that always works is the following .

.

1 ; Format the Compact Flash memory card in the camera .

.

2 ; take it out of the camera and put it in a card reader . ( forget about trying to install the update via the USB lead ).

.

3 ; download the update .

http://www.konicaminoltasupport.com/Firmware.3362.0.html?&L=0

.

4 ; Open the file and save the two seperate files onto your desktop .

.

5 ; Plug your card & card reader into the USB , bring up the screen on your P.C that shows the drives .

Now drag and drop the two files that you saved to the desktop over and drop them in the CF card .

.

6 ; Put the card back in the camera , turn camera "ON" , press "Play Image" .

The LCD should now show the message , "Do you want to update the firmware" , and click "YES" .

.

Using this method I've never had a problem updating a cameras firmware , Minolta , Sony , Nikon or Canon .

Just remember to make sure you have a fully charged , good condition battery installed .

If you have a mains adapter for the camera , plug that in as well .

.

When done , turn off the camera , and when you turn it back on , format the card again .

.

Did you download the file directly to the CF card , or did you do what the download instructions said , as I said above ?

If you just downloaded the whole lot to the card , it wouldn't have worked .

.

Let us know how you get on .

Regards , Neil .

Re: 7D Firmware update

Thank you all for your help. I really do appreciate it.  I finally did manage to copy the files onto a CF card and I installed ver 1.10 successfully and did the "recording mode reset".  I had to drag out my old Sony Vio laptop running Vista to do it as those files wouldn't open up on my Mac.

I'm assuming the reason why the date info won't hold when changing batteries is due to the internal battery.  From what I can tell it's quite a pain to get to it.  Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Re: 7D Firmware update

It's good that you've finally got it updated .

It will be the internal battery thats dead or flat .

It's not a D.I.Y job for most people to replace , and not really worth cost to pay someone to do it .

.

If the cameras sat for a while unused it could have just gone flat , the main battery is what charges it , and keeps it charged .

It's possible that if a charged main battery is kept in for a few weeks that it might start to hold a charge again .

Mines still works fine .

I'm not sure what settings are lost when the battery is removed , if it's everything that's not a difault settings like storage settings ( RAW , JPEG etc ) that would be a pain .

You could use a battery pack that was intended for the Minolta DiMage A1 , A2 and A200 cameras .

IIRC these aren't powerfull enough to run the camera , but will still provide power while you change the battery .

.

The better option is to use the battery grip .

I have one on my cameras most of the time .

This holds two batteries and with a bit of care you can just swap one battery at a time , or run it with one battery in it while your other is on charge .

.

If all that happens when you remove battery is you lose the time and date , it's just as easy to reset it each time and not worry about it .
