xtrans vs bayer sensor aperture priority mode

Just to be sure (and assuming that you compare camera JPGs), did you check that you set Sharpness the same in the two cameras?

I suspect there are slight differences in the default JPEG settings. One is a consumer camera and the other is a semi-pro enthusiast camera. Enthusiasts are usually happier to retain more highlights and start with less sharp images, especially if they plan to tweak them later.

Canon Rebels always had garish over-sharpened JPEGs from memory. It's apparently what consumers want. Their pro models were much more restrained.

I've tried to explain this, more than once, in a couple of these forums but it seems to be a hard thing for many people to understand.

Even when an enthusiast or a pro is shooting JPEG they don't want to see an over sharpened image or an image with too much contrast coming straight out of the camera and Canon point & shoots/entry level DSLRs, compared to their upper level cameras, are a perfect example.

Canon, Nikon and Fuji all seem to be designed this way because their upper level cameras are geared more towards the enthusiast rather than the casual photographer.

People should consider the fact that just because they can afford to buy an expensive or upper level camera doesn't mean that camera will be the best camera for them.

The X-A1 is an entry level camera and whether people on these forum want to admit it or not, most people who buy an entry level camera shoot JPEG, and use one of the auto picture functions more than anything else.

A great many of them don't want to mess with post processing and want an image that pleases them, straight out of the camera.
