With a camera offering focus peaking and/or "magic zoom" (EOS M + Magic/Tragic Lantern) it should be pretty easy.

From the video it is not totally clear if indeed the lens offers f1.1... The odd behavior of no real change in blur from f1.1 to f2 either points to an issue with the aperture stopping down, or with it not really being f1.1.

This lens are reviewed numerous times and everyone seem to agree it is legit f1.1.

Then this sample appears to not stop down correctly at bigger apertures.

One of biggest plus besides bokeh is the extreme low light performances, you can gather about 3 times more light than 50mm F/1.8.

The biggest downside is that it is really hard to nail perfect focus. When you focus the eyes, the nose already got blurry.

But for the price it is really hard to complain, it does remind me a lot of 50mm F/1.2 and 50mm F/1.0 from Canon, which costs 10 times+ and weigh like a brick.

It reminds me of my Nikkor 55mm f1.2 and Canon FL 55mm f1.2, but these two have less  smooth bokeh.

There is quite a difference... the bokeh balls are bigger and less sharp shooting F/1.1

the difference gonna be bigger if background is not that far away from the subject

How long was shipping for the Kamlan? I've ordered mine about ten days ago and still nothing. Tracking says shipping label created.

I paid for the item on ebay at 1am PST on Monday, and it was delivered to me (Orange County, CA) around 3pm PST on Wednesday. I was able to track the package throughout it's journey using the DHL tracking number provided by the seller. I had to look twice when I saw 1/18 as the scheduled delivery date, and they even beat that by one day! I have never received something so fast from China.

FYI, I ordered this exact item: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kamlan-50mm-F1-1-APS-C-Large-Aperture-Manual-Focus-Lens-for-Canon-EOS-M-Mount/332405181233

Looks like the seller has 8 available. My offer of $171 was accepted by the seller, so the total was $173 shipped.

F/1.2 L

F/1.8 STM

An interesting comparison between the two lens bokeh and brightness, F/1.2 L got smoother, blurry background and more light, probably 40-80% more light than F/1.8 based on images

F/1.8 still top the performances and ease of uses, for unique look the kamlan should have similar result like the F/1.2 L. Bokeh dream lens

Couple of quick shots with my new Kamlan f/1.1. Loving this lens so far. Will do a more in depth review when I have more time.

Haha, bokehlicious indeed. That's the only reason I bought this lens, so I'm glad it performs well when it comes to bokeh. Center sharpness is decent, especially for a wide open f/1.1 lens. Edge sharpness doesn't matter to me as I bought this lens for portraits or shots of objects with background separation.

Hi, I recently got my M10 and 22mm 2.0 but I have been quite disappointed with the amount of bokeh that I get when I am taking portraits. So I have been looking into some other lenses that may give better results and after extensive searching online, it seems like either 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 is a reasonable option for me. But seeing that 50mm 1.8 is only 0.2 different from my 22mm in terms of focal length, I was wondering if this would still make a whole difference in terms of bokeh.. or would 50mm 1.4 be a wiser choice for me?

Thanks!

If this is a concern with you...i.e. You want to completely nuke a background you should skip the 50 also and jump to the 85 1.8 or it's bigger brother the 100 f2, esp if you are talking outdoor portraits.

I adapted my very old FD 1,2 85 mm Aspherical to my m5. Manual focuis no problem with focus peaking and magnification.

For portraits, I'll vote for the 50mm f/1.8, especially compared to the 22mm.

You'll find out quickly that you need to step back from your subject to get the frame, it might surprise the first time but get you better results, you'll discover that your portraits taken with 22mm have big nose and small hears.

You'll even find out that with the 50mm you don't always need to go up to f/1.8 and take nice portraits down to f/4 when background is further away, making focus on moving subjects easier.
