Acollection of oldies
1

My friends,

I am 80 in March.  And to be perfectly honest, I'm getting tired of searching out interesting subjects to photograph.  I have several good modern cameras (FZ1000, G7X II, FZ200, & SX260HS).  They cover just about everything I do with a camera.

But then I read the article here on Sufi Lee and her CCD P&S cameras, and I realized I had a bunch of those.  So I decided to expand the collection, adding older models I once had, and liked a lot.  My criteria is that they have at least 7 MP, be issued in 2010 or earlier with a CCD sensor, and be something I once owned and liked a lot..

I'm doing this because I thought it would be fun to reprise old times.   My modern cameras will bear most of the load; but the old guys will be used occasionally.  For example, the Pro 1 is still the best camera I have owned for Fall colors and the S90 is a solid #2.

So far, I have: Pro 1, S90, G7, A710IS, S5IS, SD950IS.  I'm looking forward to testing and comparing these against the "modern" cameras listed in the first paragraph.  And, if I find a nice one in good condition, I'll add an S70.

There are lots of really good older users out there, and I hope to bring back my enthusiasm by working with them.  In 2017, I took many fewer pictures than in any previous year back into the 1970's when I sold my Miranda F.

Gerald, I turned 85 yesterday.  My enthusiasm for all things photographic hasn't waned over the years.  I shoot ships and upload to a world wide traffic site and as I live by an ocean there is always things happening.  An annual cruise or other "get-aways" adds subject matter and interest.

Not into a lot of photo equipment but one prime SZ camera and a backup is all I need.  That and a simple edit / filing computer system.  As we get on in life we generally need less goodies but what we have works.  I suppose it's the old "been there- done that" thing but still leaves a lot to do.  All the best in 2018 and beyond.

Don,

Thanks for the encouragement.   I have worked up a certain amount of enthusiasm for my "collection".  Maybe more properly, an accumulation.   This afternoon I went back through my archives and looked at similar shots from different cameras on Caribbean cruises dating back to 2004.  Even allowing for different lighting from clouds or a general overcast, some cameras just stood out.  Turns out those were the ones that I am collecting.

Don,

By the way congratulations on your birthday.   85 and still snapping.  Excellent!  ( I forget this in my last post.)
