A companion for Samsung NX

I am very satisfied with NX300 and NX3000 which I have been using for years with very nice pictures. Mostly taking pictures with NX30mm F2 and NX 16mm f2.4. Even if the dimensions of NX300 with NX 30mm or 16mm are contained they are not really pocket-sized and therefore I'm looking for something to support more content as dimensions. Now I'm looking for a pocketless mirror to carry in my pocket every day and I thought I'd buy a Ricoh GR. Does any of you have this combination Samsung NX + Ricoh GR? Do you have any advice or doubts about it? Thank you all

Re: A companion for Samsung NX

I have a Coolpix a somewhere in the office but I can't remember the last time I actually used it. I either pack a 30/2 (as I just love 45mm field of view) or just a phone with me when I don't want a camera bag.

You are different so take this with a grain of salt.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pocket sized".  They seem to be more "coat pocket sized"

I've tried the following, they are all roughly the same size as they each fit snugly in the same small camera bag.  They will fit in a coat pocket, including both the camera and bag.

They are:

Samsung NX3000 w 30/2 (without flash)

Fuji X70

Ricoh GR II

The GRII is lighter than the X70, but the X70 includes a tilting LCD which I prefer.

I'm using Canon G7 X for pocket camera as it's small and have some zoom.

It's a good companion because with Samsung NX I'm using only primes like you.

You know, you have many choices...

I've heard good things about the Ricoh GR and yes, it is pocketable. Do you want a pocketable camera with a large sensor - like the APS-C size in the Samsung NX series? If that is the case, then you have fewer choices available to you - and they may not be so pocketable. But the GR is nice - but remember, it has a fixed lens. Another camera you should look into is the X100 series from Fujifilm - but they are a tad larger (maybe not pocketable unless you have very big pockets (like in a coat).

Now if you don't mind a smaller sensor, there are several really outstanding pocket cameras (not made anymore - but you can still get them new on eBay). The ones I'll recommend below I own and have used for a few years. They are fantastic 12 MP cameras with great image quality capabilities.

They are the following:

Nikon P330 - sold here on US eBay:

The P330 is a higher end enthusiast model. Yes, it has a smaller 1/1.7" sensor - but it has lots of options and shoots RAW also. I love its color tonality and it fits perfectly in a pocket. It is a great "take it anywhere with you" camera. It has very good dynamic range for such a small camera (in RAW).

Here are a few samples taken with the P330 (all shot in RAW mode):

Other cameras in this genre are the Fuji XF1, or XQ1, or XQ2 (all are 12 MP)'s - and are about the same size as the Nikon P330 shown above. They have a larger 2/3" sensor (which is just a step below the 1" sensor) and have RAW capabilities. These 3 cameras are known for their outstanding dynamic range due to the sensors used. At times, I've managed to get DSLR-like results when using these cameras.

Here they are on US eBay:

XF1 on eBay

or...

XQ1 on eBay

or...

XQ2 on eBay

Here are some quick samples from my XF1:

And my last recommendation is from Samsung - yes, I'm talking about the Samsung EX2F which I fell in love with several years ago. They are harder to find because owners are keeping them. You can still get them new on eBay, but they are selling for near what they cost in the first place. This camera is built like a small tank and takes outstanding photos - especially in RAW mode.

EX2F's on US eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XSamsung+EX2F.TRS1&_nkw=Samsung+EX2F&_sacat=625

And some photos taken with this EX2F:

Like I said - you have many choices if you include sensors of all sizes. I did not comment on the Sony cameras because I don't own any of those.
